Kim Ho-joong (Korean김호중; born October 2, 1991)[1] is a South Korean singer who rose to fame through the 2020 competition television show Mr. Trot.[2]

Early life[]

Kim had been a truant student in middle school when a teacher discovered his singing talent. Under the guidance of his teacher, he began taking singing more seriously and was admitted to Gimcheon Arts High School where he was nicknamed "Pavarotti" after impressing at various regional vocal music competitions. He won a scholarship to study vocal music at Hanyang University but did not graduate.[3]

Career[]

Prior to appearing on Mr. Trot, Kim was an opera singer.[2] Kim competed on Mr. Trot in early 2020, where he finished in fourth place in the final episode. Following the end of the show, Kim released the studio album Our Family in September 2020, which sold 500,000 copies, followed by the two part album The Classic Album in December 2020, which sold over 500,000 copies collectively in pre-orders.[4]
