Kommunizm (Russian: Коммунизм, lit.'Communism') were a Soviet-Russian conceptual[1][2] collective from Omsk. The band was formed in 1988[3] and broke up in 1990. Initially a studio-only project, they re-united to play live in 2010, and disbanded in 2018. Kommunizm was founded by Yegor Letov, Oleg Sudakov (who also functioned as the band's manager), and Konstantin Ryabinov as a side-project of the cult Siberian band Grazhdanskaya Oborona.

The band released fourteen albums during their original run, including four-part compilation in 1996.[4] Some of the albums were reissued on CD in 2000–2003 through the label HOR,[5] and in 2007 some were remastered and reissued with bonus tracks by Misteriya Zvuka.[6] Two albums were reissued on vinyl with bonus tracks in 2011 by Neuro Empire's Stanzmarke imprint.[7][8] Letov and his wife Natalia Chumakova had privately remastered the entire discography in 2005. Between 2013 and 2016, Wyrgorod carried out a reissue campaign of Kommunizm's entire discography, based on the 2005 remasters.

Konstantin Ryabinov died on 16 March 2020 at the age of 55. On 19 February 2021, Sudakov stated that Kommunizm had recorded a fifteenth album in 2019, which was intended to be the group's final album, but Ryabinov's death prevented it from being finished. He announced the new album's release for that summer.
