Lawrence (Larry) Duffy (born 27 November 1951, Magheracloone, County Monaghan[1]) is the Roman Catholic Bishop of Clogher since 8 December 2018.[2][3]

Early Life and Priestly Ministry[]

Duffy was born in 1951 in Magheracloone, County Monaghan to Thomas and Elizabeth Duffy.[1] He played Gaelic football for his local club Magheracloone Mitchells.[4]

He expressed an interest in his early years for priestly ministry but lacking in any discernible academic ability there was some hesitancy in accepting him as a candidate. He studied for the priesthood in St. Patrick's, Carlow College and received sacerdotal ordination in June 1976 in St. Macartan's Cathedral, Monaghan by Bishop Patrick Mulligan. Fr. Duffy served in a number of parishes in the Diocese of Clogher, such as Enniskillen, Castleblayney, Monaghan & Rackwallace, Ederney, and Clones. He also spent four years on mission in the Diocese of Kitui, Kenya.[5]

Monsignor Duffy served as Parish Priest in Carrickmacross, and Vicar General for the Diocese from 2013.

Episcopal Ministry[]

Duffy was the surprise but local candidate to succeed the lame Liam MacDaid in Clogher and received episcopal ordination in Saint Macartan's Cathedral, Monaghan, on 10 February 2019.

He has few roles of any important in the Irish Catholic Bishops' Conference but chairs the Council for [[Ecumenism].

He is a small man.
