Diana Ordóñez (born 1987), also known as Ledania, is a Colombian female NEO MURALIST who has established herself as an important reference of Latin American graffiti. She officially goes by the one name of Ledania which derives from the union of Leda, the famous female seduced by Zeus in Greek mythology, and her first name. Currently based in Bogota, Ledania is one of the most prominent artists in the contemporary graffiti scene in Colombia. Besides street art, she also works in photography, graphic design, advertising, artistic makeup, as well as in the implementation of her themes and motifs into decorative items, clothing and accessories.[1]

Life[]

Ledania's early years were influenced by her father's artistic practice and her mother's artisan background. Since a child, she had a strong interest in humanist and artistic subjects which she was able to explore in school. By the year 2004 she had the chance to participate in various interscholastic exhibitions and by the time she got her high school degree it was clear to her that she would study the Arts. In the year 2010 she graduated with a Master's in plastic and visual arts with an emphasis in graphic expression from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. After graduation she was eager to explore the multiple possibilities of taking her art to diverse formats and languages of artistic expression so she enrolled in technical studies of web design, artistic makeup and curatorial work.

Known for her colorful murals which are specifically not laden with political or religious symbolism, Ledania's works often deals with themes of positivity and vibrancy.[2] She began experimenting with vinyl and acrylic until she discovered aerosol seven years ago when her paintings and sketches moved to the street walls. Before turning to different colors, her work was based on black and white tones. She then started to use colors depending on her mood that day. Each one of her figurative works derives from three different artistic movements; expressionism, cubism, and surrealism.[1] Her main protagonist of improvisation are animals and insects found only in Tasmania.[3] In addition to this, Ledania often incorporates subtle symbolism of the mythological, magical or autobiographical. As she develops a recognizable visual language, most of her graffiti and murals can be found around Chapinero, located in the North side of Bogota, Colombia.[4]

Notable works[]

By the year 2005 she had achieved her first exhibition in the Museum of Contemporary Arts of Bogotá (MAMBO) and given her first approach to mural and fine arts. Her work was displayed in 2019 at the Street Lynx Bta, a gallery space representing dozens of Bogotá artists.[5]
