In numismatics, legend (from Latin: legere, to read), is an inscription on a coin, medal, or seal. The term includes all writing present on the object, including words, abriviations, monograms, letters, and numbers. The legend can be present on the obverse, reverse, and edge, and can consist of information such as face value, year of issue, a sign of mint and the engraver, or motto.[1][2]
