Lev (Azerbaijani and Kurdish: Lev; Armenian: Լեւոնի Գիւղ, romanized: Lewoni Giwġ, lit. 'Levon's Village') is a village in the Kalbajar District of Azerbaijan.
Demographics[]
The village had been populated by Azerbaijanis until the karabakh war.
History[]
The village was in possession of an Armenian monastery until 1913 when it was destroyed by Soviet authorities.[1]
There is an ancient Albanian fortress called Lek in the village. Azerbaijani sources suggest that the word "Lök" shifted into "Löy" and thus later became known as Lev or Levon.[2]
