Lhaimagu Faqeeraa
Lhaimagu Faqeeraa (Dhivehi: ޅައިމަގު ފަގީރާ) (misspelled as Lhaimagu Fageera) is a mystic most famously mentioned in the folklore of Dhonhiyala aai Alifulhu (Dhivehi: ދޮންހިޔަލަ އާއި އަލިފުޅު).[1] He is supposed to have lived in Lhaimagu island, in the Maldives. According to the story, he saw a vision of a faiymini (a woman with exceptional beauty) being born in Burunee island. He then traveled to Burunee to confirm this and informed the king about the faiymini.
Misunderstandings[]
A lot of Maldivians assume that Lhaimagu Faqeeraa was a poor person. However, according to the story, he built a dhoni in order to travel to Burunee. This suggests that he was in fact one of the richest person on the island during his time.
A fakir or faqir as opposed to fagir (Arabic: فقیر 'poor') is a Sufi, especially one who performs feats of endurance or apparent magic.[2] Derived from faqr (Arabic: فقر), Lit: poverty.[3]
