Lincoln City Career Technical High School is a charter high school in Lincoln City, Oregon, United States. It was created as a charter school in 2000. It has a strong focus on academic and workplace preparation through a well-respected Career and Technical Education program. It was recently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the second-best school in the district overall. It has a class size of 2–8, a student-teacher ratio of 5 to 1, and an academic faculty well versed in math, science, English, and social sciences.
The school is based on work-based education, courses developed through project-based learning, integrating an advanced hybrid learning system developed by the Gates Foundation utilizing onsite tutors/instructors assisted with an online academic instructional platform. The emphasis of day-day operations includes the school as a simulated workplace, with emphasis on job-finding, skill development, and engagement in higher-paying jobs in the workplace. There is a parallel track for college-bound students at our sister community colleges, including joint high school-college credit courses in sciences such as aviation, marine science, and caregiving.
The school's CTE programs include Aviation, Agriculture-Food-Natural Resources, and Medical and Health Services. The school's Career and Technical Education collaborators include Samaritan Health Services, the Consolidated Tribe of Siletz Indians, Oregon State University, and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. The school has been established as a nationally sanctioned club of the Academy of Modeler Aeronautics.
Our CTE instructors have decades of industry experience. Their proficiency-based courses include Caregiving, Introduction to Flight, Marine Biology, and Aquarium Science offer pathways to credit at two Oregon Community Colleges. Students may receive national certifications and licenses in these areas. The school has been accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools since 1996.[1]
Academics and CTE Programs[]
In 2019, Career Tech had 54 students and 11 staff for a 5:1 student to teacher ratio. All of our students are encouraged to major in and complete two years of training in (at least) one of three Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs, including Medical/Health Services, Aviation, and Agriculture-Food-Natural Resource Management.
