Detective Harry Bosch and his partner Detective Jerry Edgar are involved in a fatal shooting incident whilst pursuing a suspect. A departmental investigation clears Bosch but the family of the suspect sues him in a wrongful death suit. Bosch takes a case when a doctor's dog finds a child's bone. The finding of the bone re-opens a cold case from 1989. During the investigation, Bosch meets rookie police officer Julia Brasher and forms a connection with her. While in the morgue, the coroner details the abuse of the child to Bosch who gets flashbacks of when he was abused as a child.
22"Chapter Two: Lost Light"Kevin DowlingTom Smuts & Eric OvermyerFebruary 13, 2015 (2015-02-13)
A patrol unit pulls over a van after finding the plates belong to another vehicle and officers discover a man's naked body in the back. Meanwhile, Detectives Bosch and Edgar continue the investigation of the dead child by re-interviewing neighborhood man Nicholas Trent who neglected to mention a previous conviction for pedophilia. Some children's items are found in a bin in Trent's home, which he explains away as part of his job as a film set designer. After Trent agrees to take a polygraph, the detectives leave but are accosted by a reporter who has been following Bosch. The reporter uses the threat of printing speculation to wrest a comment from Bosch. Bosch supplies, and records, a comment that a routine canvass of the neighborhood has been conducted, during which everyone interviewed has been cooperative, and no suspect has yet been identified. At his civil trial, Bosch is ambushed by accusations that he murdered his suspect because his own mother was a prostitute. Brasher spends the night with Bosch and over breakfast the next morning shows Bosch an online news article identifying Trent as a pedophile and naming him as a suspect in the child murder. Back at the county jail, the driver of the van, identified as Raynard Waits, seeks a deal to avoid the death penalty by pleading guilty and revealing the locations of all the victims, including the child in Bosch's case. Lieutenant Billets tells Deputy Chief Irving that Bosch believes his confidential personnel file was leaked to the attorney in the case against him by a Captain with a grudge against Bosch. Bosch receives a call from Trent's attorney, who thinks Trent is in police custody. After assuring the attorney that Trent is not in custody, Bosch and Edgar return to Trent's home and find that Trent has committed suicide by hanging.
33"Chapter Three: Blue Religion"Kevin DowlingDiane Frolov & Andrew SchneiderFebruary 13, 2015 (2015-02-13)
After viewing the scene Bosch and the journalist following him exchange words outside of Trent's house, with both accusing the other of being the reason for Trent's death. Bosch later goes to Brasher's apartment and attempts to warn her that her own maverick ways will get her fired, which leads to an argument where Bosch is told to leave. Deputy Chief Irving tries to get Bosch and Edgar to declare Trent murdered the boy in the hill but Bosch remains unconvinced, which further angers Captain Pounds. A tip from Sheila Delacroix, a woman with a missing brother, finally leads Bosch and Edgar to conclude the body is Arthur Delacroix, a runaway from a troubled home. District Attorney and political climber Rick O'Shea informs Bosch that Waits has confessed to Delacroix's murder and orders Bosch to confirm the story. Over drinks with DC Irving, Bosch is informed this may be a purely political maneuver by the DA in a run for mayor. Bosch apologizes to Brasher and they sleep together again. At the county jail, Waits reveals specific details of contents from Delacroix's backpack that only the police knew. Bosch, still unconvinced of Waits's guilt, is forced to wonder how Waits could have known.
44"Chapter Four: Fugazi"Ernest DickersonGeorge Pelecanos & Michael ConnellyFebruary 13, 2015 (2015-02-13)
Sergeant "Mank" Mankiewicz (Scott Klace) tells Bosch that the officer who pulled over Waits, George Irving (who is Deputy Chief Irving's son), may have done so illegally and George's partner Pierce wants to file a formal complaint. Bosch talks to Pierce and convinces him that Waits is too much of a bad man to let him walk, and promises to make sure Pierce gets a more by-the-book partner. Bosch and Edgar visit Delacroix's estranged mother and get definite confirmation the body is Arthur Delacroix. Bosch's trial is concluded and the jury finds for the plaintiff; however, the jury only fines Bosch one dollar. While the LAPD and his lawyer are pleased, Bosch is angered by the jury's decision. DC Irving orders Bosch to oversee a field trip where Waits will show the police and the DA where he killed his victims. O'Shea brings a camera crew to show off his leadership abilities. During the trip Waits taunts Bosch in the car and later falls breaking his nose causing O'Shea to demand Waits be un-cuffed over Bosch's strenuous objections. Waits uses the opportunity to escape by stealing Detective Moore's gun and shooting Moore and the Deputy DA who O'Shea uses as a shield. O'Shea confiscates the video but the cameraman provides DC Irving with a copy. Bosch swears to an injured Moore that he'll get Waits.
55"Chapter Five: Mama's Boy"Ernest DickersonWilliam N. FordesFebruary 13, 2015 (2015-02-13)
DC Irving informs Bosch that DA O'Shea is publicly blaming Bosch for Waits's escape and that Captain Pounds will be leading the task force to catch him. Waits enters the house of an elderly woman (who turns out to be his mother) who calls him David. Waits asks his mother, who is unaware of his crimes, if he can spend Christmas with her and she happily agrees. Bosch and Edgar interview Delacroix's father Sam, during which a drunken Sam breaks down and declares that he killed his own son, but seems stunned by the abuse allegations. In a later interview Bosch becomes unconvinced of Sam's guilt. Bosch searches Sam's house and finds evidence Sam molested his daughter Sheila. Waits picks up another male prostitute and murders him.
66"Chapter Six: Donkey's Years"Roxann DawsonJennifer Ames & Steve TurnerFebruary 13, 2015 (2015-02-13)
Waits calls Bosch to ask about his options; Bosch informs Waits he can rot in a cell, kill himself, or let the police kill him. Bosch tells Sam Delacroix it was impossible for him to kill Arthur because as a drunk he was physically unable to bury the body where it was found. Bosch reveals he knows Sam raped Sheila and Sheila must have taken out her pain on Arthur. Since Bosch can't arrest Sam he uses this to demand Sam to identify any of Arthur's old friends so he can get new leads. Brasher helps Bosch find a present for his teenage daughter until he receives another call from Waits. Waits taunts Bosch leading Bosch to another murder scene at a hardware store. Bosch heads to Las Vegas to visit his ex-wife Eleanor Wish and his daughter Maddie for Christmas, but also wants Eleanor's skills as a former FBI profiler to get her opinion on Waits. Eleanor reviews the Waits case and concludes the name Raynard Waits comes from a French fairy tale and the items stolen from the hardware store were for a lair. Irving informs DA O'Shea he has the video of the Waits field trip and makes a tentative alliance to assure O'Shea becomes mayor and Irving becomes Chief. While in Las Vegas, Bosch is informed of a potential lead in the Delacroix case involving Johnny Stokes, and Bosch returns to Los Angeles. While pursuing Stokes, Officer Brasher is shot in the ribs (although protected by her bullet-resistant vest) and she claims Stokes did it in a struggle. Bosch is certain he saw Brasher accidentally shoot herself.
77"Chapter Seven: Lost Boys"Alex ZakrzewskiJoe Gonzalez & Eric OvermyerFebruary 13, 2015 (2015-02-13)
Bosch interviews Stokes about Delacroix, but comes away more convinced that Stokes didn't shoot Brasher. Visiting Lieutenant Billets at her home for advice on Brasher's shooting leaves Bosch convinced he has to tell the truth no matter the consequences. Bosch revisits Brasher to tell her he knows the truth about the shooting, and Brasher calls Bosch a hypocrite. Bosch has Stokes released to spare the LAPD potential embarrassment. Waits attempts to pick up a man on the highway only to fail to kill him, which leads DC Irving to assign Bosch to find Waits independent of Captain Pounds's task force. Bosch searches Waits's last known address and finds evidence of Waits's obsession with old Parisian catacombs and skulls, which leads Eleanor to speculate that Waits may be building an underground monument of his own. After Edgar reviews footage of a conversation with Waits, Bosch realizes he and Waits were both in the same orphanage giving Bosch his first lead on Waits's real identity. Waits murders his mother, telling her that he loves her.
88"Chapter Eight: High Low"Matt Earl BeesleyWilliam N. Fordes & Tom SmutsFebruary 13, 2015 (2015-02-13)
Waits calls Bosch about his mother but is angered when Bosch implies his mother is just another of his victims. Captain Pounds informs Brasher her statement about Stokes is a lie and implies he'll back her if she reports Bosch for sexual harassment. DC Irving approaches a powerful voice in the African-American community, Reverend Ott, about backing Rick O'Shea for mayor in return for Irving becoming Chief and Ott given a seat on the police commission. A county coroner admits to Bosch that Waits called him from jail and tricked him into giving up information about what was in Delacroix's backpack, which eventually led to Waits's escape. Brasher is reassigned to Bosch's precinct to both of their disappointment. A new lead in the Delacroix case suggests Trent really did kill the boy but on further review convinces Bosch that Stokes actually killed Delacroix for his skateboard. A murder of a prostitute is very similar to his own mother's murder, which draws Bosch back into the Waits case. Waits calls Bosch to continue to taunt him.
99"Chapter Nine: The Magic Castle"Alex ZakrzewskiDiane Frolov & Andrew SchneiderFebruary 13, 2015 (2015-02-13)
Edgar informs an angry rank and file that Stokes is wanted for Delacroix's murder, which forces both Mank and Edgar to defend Bosch. Bosch and Billets meet for a drink where Billets admits she also is in a compromising relationship with someone under her command. Waits calls Bosch again to tell him it's all coming to an end. Bosch replies that he knows all of the secrets Waits tried to taunt him with. Waits kidnaps a young mother, leaving a note in her child's stroller in order to taunt Bosch. Bosch calls Eleanor for help, and she tells Bosch the mother is bait for him. Using the files from the orphanage Bosch and Edgar track down Waits to a shed. While Edgar calls for backup, Bosch finds a secret tunnel where Waits has his hostage. After a heated exchange of words Waits throws his hostage aside and aims a gun at Bosch, which forces Bosch to kill him. In the aftermath, Captain Pounds orders his subordinates to tell the media Pounds' task force found Waits. Bosch calls Eleanor to tell her what happened and to ask about Maddie. DC Irving informs Bosch that Waits's gun was unloaded to which Bosch simply replies, “Suicide by cop”.

Bosch sees the department therapist about the Waits shooting and is unwilling to say anything personal since information about his mother from a previous therapy session was revealed in court. Arthur Delacroix's remains are buried, leading Sheila to express her anger that Bosch knows what happened to her. DA O'Shea opens a grand jury hearing against the LAPD to ensure Irving's blackmail video of the Waits escape is neutralized. Eleanor calls Bosch to tell him Maddie has run away to LA. Bosch finds Maddie at the bus station and chastises her but is also happy for a chance to spend time with her. Edgar continues to look into Stokes and finds him working as muscle for a slumlord. Leaving Maddie with a colleague, Bosch joins Edgar to chase Stokes. After being caught, Stokes claims Delacroix's death was an accident despite the coroner's report. Bosch returns to Maddie and when she asks, he explains his past to her. Stokes is released since he was a juvenile when he killed Delacroix. Captain Pounds approaches Bosch to shame him for not jailing Stokes, but Bosch warns Pounds to leave him alone. Pounds grabs Bosch's arm and Bosch shoves Pounds through a window in front of Mank. Pounds screams that Bosch will regret that incident but Bosch walks away, happy enough that he'll now spend time with his daughter. Bosch turns in his gun and badge to Billets and goes home, only to be called later by Edgar. Sam Delacroix has murdered Stokes. Bosch approaches Sam and asks him if he felt absolved for all he had done but Billets stops Bosch from possible issues in the future.

Bosch gives Eleanor information that Tony Allen may have buried the body of another undercover FBI agent in the Marks organization. Irving calls Bosch to his hotel to inform Bosch of his son's true assignment and that Irving thinks because of the political climate that the Chief of Police, Mayor Ramos, and District Attorney O'Shea may all prefer to bury his son's case by treating it as a random robbery rather than be embarrassed by finding a group of corrupt cops. Irving asks Bosch to help him run a separate investigation knowing Bosch would do anything to catch a cop killer. Eleanor gives Agent Griffin the information from Bosch. While skeptical of her motives, Griffin agrees to uphold his end of the agreement. Bosch and Irving force Arceneaux to talk to them by telling him the stash house his crew hit was connected to a major cartel. Three months after discovering Bradley Walker's connection to his mother's murder, Bosch continues to track Walker's movements. Bosch sneaks into an event at the Biltmore hotel where Walker is in attendance. Meanwhile, attorney Howard Elias is shot dead on the Angel's Flight railway nearby, along with the railway operator. Due to his proximity, Bosch is one of the first on the scene to investigate the homicide. Elias, a high-profile attorney known for cases against cops, was pursuing the Black Guardian case against RHD for torturing Michael Harris, an innocent man suspected of abducting a young girl. RHD and other cops at the scene of the Elias murder show flippance and disregard toward him. The murder immediately attracts public attention, with the assumption that the murderer was a cop. Concerned about optics, Irving dismisses RHD from the case and assembles a task force consisting of Bosch, Jimmy Robertson, and IA detectives Amy Snyder and Gabriella Lincoln, who investigated the Black Guardian case. Bosch has the team begin searching for bullets, two of which are missing while the third, fired into Elias' rectum, is still inside his body. Bosch notifies Elias' wife Millie and son Martin, who have already received taunting phone calls about it from cops. Bosch discovers Elias' cellphone on the Angel's Flight tracks, with a text telling Elias to meet there.

Jerry Edgar comes back to work early after recovering from his gunshot wound. Honey Chandler takes over as the special master of the Elias case. Bosch and Chandler discuss Elias, who was taking the Black Guardian case to trial, contradicting his usual pattern of quick settlements and indicating that he had strong evidence. Bosch speaks to Michael Harris for some clue as to Elias' strategy, but Harris is only aware of his own testimony as evidence. Robertson discovers an affair between Elias and his assistant Pamela Duncan, who corroborates the belief that Elias was confident he could win the Black Guardian case. She also reveals that Millie found out about the affair, and Martin resented his father for it. Eleanor Wish gets involved with the FBI again, acting as an asset by playing high-stakes poker games to gather intel on Chinese nationals under investigation. Attending a game in the back of a restaurant, she witnesses an unknown man arrive and clear the players out so he can beat one of the men she was monitoring. Eleanor covertly films him with her phone, getting his face on camera.

Several men break into Martin Elias' apartment and beat him severely. He also becomes a major suspect in his father's murder when his initial alibi is disproven. Millie sends a badly bruised Martin to the police station to provide his real alibi, selling fake drugs at a party, with video evidence. Bosch suspects Millie sent Martin in deliberately so his bruised face would raise suspicions of police brutality and inflame the protesters. Eleanor provides footage taken of the poker game beating to her FBI handlers, but grows paranoid. Maddie learns that Reggie Woo, still in Hong Kong, had his passport taken and cannot leave the country. The defendants in the Black Guardian case, led by veteran detective Terry Drake, try to find out where the Elias murder investigation is leading. Robertson grapples with his own personal connection to the case, as Drake was his former partner and mentor, as well as his strong suspicions that a cop committed the murder. Another Black Guardian defendant, Detective Frank Sheehan, fears the murder will be pinned on him since he lacks an alibi. Bosch comes home late to find Sheehan at his house, drunkenly professing his innocence. Bosch invites Sheehan into the house.

In Bosch's home, Frank Sheehan admits his guilt in the Black Guardian case, but reiterates his innocence of the Elias murder. Believing Sheehan, Bosch lets him sleep on the couch before bringing him into the station to tell his story in the morning. However, by the time Bosch wakes up, Sheehan has fled his house. With Sheehan on the run, he becomes the prime suspect in the Elias murder, further compounded when a second firearm is found on his property along with a video of him threatening Elias. Irving meets with Desiree Zealy, an unofficial protest organizer, hoping to avoid violence at an upcoming protest. After a fight with Maddie, Eleanor meets with Bosch for lunch, seeking parenting advice. As Eleanor returns to her car, two men ride by on a motorcycle and shoot her dead. A devastated Bosch confronts Eleanor's FBI handlers, learning the details of their operation and believing it led to her death. With no other family left, a grieving Maddie moves in with Bosch.

Bosch and Maddie both grieve after Eleanor's death. Bosch flashes back to the day of his mother's murder, and begins privately investigating Eleanor's shooting, finding a security camera across the street that caught it on video. Edgar assists, copying information from Eleanor's phone before turning it in to Agent Griffin. His ex-wife Latonya, usually amicable about letting him stay over, bristles when she sees him investigating the murder in her home. Billets, temporarily acting as captain, is forced to take a hard stance while delegating her fellow lieutenants, who fail to take her seriously otherwise. Irving researches Desiree Zealy's background and organization strategies. The manhunt for Sheehan continues as Robertson takes the lead on the Elias investigation, confronting Terry Drake about their tumultuous history in RHD. Maddie returns to school prematurely and leaves with a boy. Bosch, anxious at Maddie's absence without notifying him, tracks her down to bring her home. Maddie asks to view her mother's body at the coroner's office, and Bosch reluctantly complies. Afterward, Maddie ruminates that her last conversation with her mother was an argument, and Bosch reassures her, recounting his last conversation with Eleanor at her request.

After locating the Golden Soup, the restaurant where Eleanor took her cell phone video, and learning more from Agent Deng about the case she was working, Bosch decides to lay off the man from the video and focus on finding Eleanor's shooters. Edgar later traces a number on Eleanor's phone to Tiffany Hsu, a card dealer who was present the night she took the video. Maddie recovers a safe deposit box left by her mother, and later reminisces with Bosch. The Koreatown Killer is killed in a hit-and-run accident. Billets, Crate and Barrel respond to the scene, oblivious to the victim's identity, though Crate notes he was carrying a gun. Sheehan is spotted sneaking into his ex-wife's house, leading to a tense standoff. Bosch successfully talks a suicidal Sheehan into dropping his gun and surrendering, insisting that he still believes in Sheehan's innocence. However, after Sheehan's arrest, a ballistics report confirms that the bullet found in Elias' body matches Sheehan's service weapon.

Officers Edgewood and Powers misread an innocent situation as a carjacking while off-duty and under the influence, using excessive force to respond. A third officer writes them up, but Billets keeps it under wraps to avoid further aggravating the growing protest movement. With Frank Sheehan dead to rights for the Elias murder but still insisting he was framed, Bosch starts to second-guess his own instincts. Suspecting that Elias somehow acquired footage of the Black Guardian incident, Bosch investigates the junkyard bathroom where it took place and confirms the existence of a hidden camera that was unaccounted for, placed by the junkyard owner to catch his employees using drugs. Irving informs Walker that he has a suspect in the retirement home fire who may work for one of Walker's construction crews. Edgar talks to Tiffany Hsu, who informs him that Ting, the owner of the Golden Soup, seemed familiar with the man from the video. Maddie finally gets in touch with Reggie, who explains that he was flagged as a security threat when the Chinese government somehow learned about Eleanor's involvement with an international investigation. As the protests intensify, Robertson and Pierce have their car torched by a molotov cocktail outside the station. As Sheehan insists he was framed, Bosch looks into an old case where Sheehan fired his sidearm, and finds the bullet missing from the property room. Reviewing the records, Bosch learns Amy Snyder had checked out the case file just days before.

Bosch confronts Snyder about the missing bullet from the case file, but Snyder pleads her innocence, revealing a secret security camera in the property room. Checking footage from the secret camera, Bosch discovers that Lincoln checked out the case file using Snyder's name. Suspecting that Lincoln swapped the bullets from the Elias case and Sheehan's old shooting to frame him, Bosch and the rest of his task force set up a fake interrogation with Detective Rooker to ambush her. Pierce returns to Angel's Flight, locating the bullet that killed the railway operator, which does not match Sheehan's bullet. Maddie drives out to the desert, searching for the location where an old photo was taken of Eleanor and herself as an infant. Irving meets with Zealy publicly and offers her a spot in a civilian oversight committee, turning her followers against her when they see her talking to a cop. Bosch and Edgar brace Ting at the Golden Soup, where they learn the man from the video is named Shiwei Chen. They meet with gang unit detective Gabriel Moy, who identifies a group of local hitmen called the Baby Bandit Boys that Chen may have hired to carry out the shooting. As the three search a karaoke bar frequented by the "BBs", two men resembling Eleanor's killers suddenly open fire. Moy kills one of them in the shootout, but the second man escapes from Bosch on a motorcycle.

A manhunt commences for Eleanor's escaped shooter, identified as local Triad-affiliated gangster Eddie Veng. Shuwei Chen, revealed to be a Chinese government official, unexpectedly shows up at the station personally and speaks to Bosch, asking for information about Reggie. The FBI monitors Chen's movements, as well as Bosch's home for his and Maddie's safety. With the protest looming and Zealy out of the equation, the police and protesters argue over the location to stage it. Billets comes forward with an effective compromise. With DA O'Shea present, Lincoln confesses to her involvement in the Elias case. She found the hidden camera from the junkyard bathroom during the initial IA investigation, but gave it to Bradley Walker instead of reporting it. Lincoln was involved in a conspiracy where she and Walker would secretly provide evidence to Elias in his cases, and take a cut of the settlement. She claims Elias' decision to take Black Guardian to trial jeopardized Walker's career, as the source of the footage would be on record, and Walker murdered Elias personally to prevent this. With nothing but Lincoln's confession, O'Shea refuses to move forward with a case against Walker. Remembering that Walker had an alibi at the Biltmore hotel the night of the murder, Bosch returns to the Biltmore and discovers a backroom door leading to the underground tunnels and providing a secret passageway directly to Angel's Flight.

Detective Moy tracks Eddie Veng's movements to a local bar, where his body is found in the trunk with Bosch's business card in his mouth. Bosch rushes to an airfield where Shiwei Chen is boarding a plane to leave the country. The FBI force Bosch to let Chen go, and Bosch punches Griffin in the face, secretly swiping his phone. Bosch gives the phone to Deng, revealing his suspicions that Griffin compromised Eleanor by relaying the photo she sent him to a Chinese intermediary. Bosch leaves Deng to investigate Griffin's culpability. As the day of the big protest arrives, the turnout is minimal, ruining Mayor Ramos' attempt at a photo op. Believing Elias kept the Black Guardian video on his person, Bosch searches his personal effects from the crime scene, discovering a micro-SD card hidden inside a fake quarter in Elias' pocket change, with a video of Sheehan and Drake torturing Michael Harris. He turns over the card to Harris and Elias' assistant Kaplan to resume the trial. After showing Edgar the entrance to the underground passageway and explaining his theory that Walker ditched his gun there, Bosch lures Walker to the tunnels with a text from Lincoln's phone, catching him red-handed retrieving the murder weapon. Walker repeatedly goads Bosch to kill him, but Bosch refuses to take the bait. As Edgar arrives to provide backup and hides nearby, Bosch talks Walker into confessing to the murders of both Howard Elias and his mother. Bosch arrests Walker, confirming that Edgar witnessed the confession and declaring that he has all he needs. Bosch takes Maddie out to the desert, where they spread Eleanor's ashes.

411"Two Kinds of Truth"Alex ZakrzewskiDaniel PyneApril 19, 2019 (2019-04-19)
In a flash-forward, an undercover Bosch disembarks a plane at a remote desert compound, where he poses as one of several opiate addicts receiving pill rations from a crew of armed men. Bosch gets caught outside at night after spying on the crew, and their leader Walsh plays Russian roulette with a gun pointed at Bosch's head. Two weeks earlier, masked gunmen Hart and Stones break into a pharmacy run by Jose Evisquel and his son Jose Jr. The robbers execute the father and raid the shop for opiates. Police respond to the robbery and the getaway driver flees, but a squad car collision between a speeding Officer Powers and a distracted Crate and Barrel lets the robbers escape in the ensuing chaos. Hart and Stones steal another car from a parking garage, murdering its owner. At a rendezvous with their getaway driver, they murder him as well. Bosch and Edgar investigate the Evisquel murder and search for Jose Jr, who flees to his cousin Oscar's apartment. Meanwhile, Maddie interns at the DA's office, where she learns that one of her father's old cases is being reopened: Preston Borders, convicted of raping and murdering Danielle Skylar in 1996, is attempting to overturn the conviction. Maddie informs Bosch, who remains convinced of Borders' guilt.

Robertson investigates the murder of the civilian carjacked by Hart and Stones, eventually connecting it to the pharmacy murders. Searching the empty Esquivel home, Bosch and Edgar learn Esquivel Sr. was filing charges against a local clinic run by Dr. Garcia for over-prescribing oxycontin. Staking out the clinic, they spot a suspicious van that ferries a large group of addicts from the clinic to a local pharmacy, then an airfield where they board a private jet. Billets attempts to mediate between Crate, Barrel and Powers, none of whom is willing to accept blame for the crash. Edgar contacts Gary Wise, an old CI, to put detectives Marcos and Arias in touch with his acquaintance Bo Jonas while investigating a drive-by shooting. Looking into the Borders appeal, Bosch learns his former partner and ex-girlfriend Christina Henry is spearheading the CIU investigation into the case. He reaches out to Honey Chandler for representation, who plans to acquire standing for Bosch so he can get involved in the appeal. With aid from her investigator Hector Bonner, Chandler learns the appeal is based on a deathbed confession by serial rapist Olmer, whose DNA was then found on a handkerchief in the Skylar case's evidence box.

The DA's office confirms that they are going forward with the Borders inquiry. Bosch visits retired detective Ryan Rodgers, who also worked the Skylar case, to retrieve old files. Bosch explains the Borders case to Maddie; Borders was described by witnesses angrily accosting Danielle Skylar after a date where she rebuffed him. She was raped and murdered two weeks later, and Borders was convicted on the basis that her seahorse pendant was found in his apartment during a police search. Maddie starts dating another intern named Tom, who is shadowing Christina Henry's CIU team. Digging up dirt on the Borders appeal, Hector finds that Borders has covertly married a local woman named Rita Tadesco while imprisoned. In light of the collision, Billets faces pressure to retire Crate and Barrel or transfer them to CAPs Division. Detective Arias reports to Edgar that Gary Wise and Bo Jonas never showed to their meeting, and Edgar finds Gary shot dead later. Detective Pierce combs through security footage from the Evisquel pharmacy in the week before the robbery, finding a heated confrontation between Evisquel Sr. and Carter, the Garcia clinic's van driver. Evisquel Jr. sneaks back to Los Angeles to view his father's body, narrowly escaping from Carter.

Bosch reads the Olmer confession, which omits the detail of a knife used in the Skylar murder and only references what was published in newspapers, further convincing him of its falsehood. Bonner tracks down Rita Tadesco, who turns out to be a court stenographer. Posing as Borders' friend from prison, Bonner learns from Rita that she and Borders are expecting a large payout soon. He also uncovers Borders' complaints of being prematurely arrested in 1996, though this is not on file. Bosch speaks to the arresting officer and learns that Irving covered it up. Tracking down a carjacker who stripped the stolen car from the pharmacy shooting, Robertson gets physical descriptions of Hart and Stones. Pierce and Vega track Jose Jr's movements to Oscar, who gives them his sister's address in Bakersfield. Crate and Barrel butt heads as they blame each other for the crash. Bosch goes undercover as a disabled, drug addicted vet. He visits the VA hoping for a referral to the Garcia clinic, but is instead encouraged to join group therapy. There he meets Louis Degner and Elizabeth Clayton, both addicts involved with the clinic. Bosch visits Louis' home and finds Elizabeth overdosing. After an ambulance is called to the house, Edgar responds and Bosch hides Louis' oxy stash on his person, later telling Louis he owes him. Bosch learns that Elizabeth's addiction worsened after the unsolved murder of her daughter Daisy.

Louis brings an undercover Bosch to the Garcia clinic and vouches for him. Edgar investigates a case from Gary Wise's past, where he snitched on three boys who involved him in a robbery, including Bo Jonas. Edgar questions the other two, now grown men who deny any ill will toward Gary, but is unable to locate Jonas. Robertson's lead results in composites of Hart and Stones, with witnesses reporting them frequently visiting a local garage. Robertson finds a car parked inside, but no further leads. Hart tracks Oscar down to his workplace. Bonner reveals to Chandler and Bosch that Rita Tadesco was the stenographer at Borders' trial. Bosch confronts Borders, who expresses his plan to ruin Bosch's life by overturning all of his cases once he's free. Checking footage from the secret property room camera, Bosch identifies civilian employee Terry Spencer as a possible accomplice in planting the handkerchief in Skylar's apartment. Jun encourages Irving to run for mayor. Reviewing the Skylar case, Irving finds a crime scene photo confirming the seahorse pendant was planted, and shreds it.

Bosch and Bonner identify connections between Terry Spencer, Borders' lawyer Lance Cronyn, and Cronyn's wife Kathy Zelden, who Spencer hired to help him out of debt. Fearing that their scheme is being exposed, and worried about the paranoid Rita and Spencer, Cronyn has Spencer leave town to hide out until the hearing is over. Bosch notices the photo missing from the Borders case file, and questions Irving about the premature arrest he covered up. After discussions with Billets, Barrel finally agrees to retire. Robertson's team discover Fentanyl residue in the garage where Hart and Stones were seen, nearly killing an officer exposed to the fumes. An undercover Bosch returns to the Garcia clinic, where he joins Elizabeth and other addicts in the van. Stones, chaperoning the van pool, spots Edgar's police tail outside the pharmacy. Bosch calls 911 as a distraction, endearing himself to Stones while also sending a signal for Edgar to abandon the tail. Resuming the operation, Stones brings Bosch and the other addicts to the airfield, where they board the private jet.

An undercover Bosch is flown to Walsh's desert compound with no backup. Returning to the flash-forward from the season premiere, Bosch survives Walsh's Russian roulette game. He later bonds with Elizabeth Clayton and learns more about Daisy's murder. As Walsh's crew fly them back into town to fill prescriptions at another pharmacy, Bosch frames Elizabeth for shoplifting to get her arrested, forcing the crew to abandon her before returning to the compound. Another addict suspects Bosch of framing her, raising Walsh's suspicions again. Oscar is found tortured to death by Hart to give Jose’s location. Edgar informs Billets that they lost contact with Bosch, and she attempts to keep the risky operation under wraps. A concerned Maddie seeks her father's whereabouts from Billets and Edgar, who remain evasive. Chandler presents her case to the presiding judge for Bosch's standing in the Borders appeal, successfully getting him into the trial. Edgar meets with Marcos and Arias, suggesting Bo Jonas may not be Gary's murderer since he was seen running scared from the shooting. He learns that Marcos and Arias are in contact with Jacques Avrile, a Haitian war criminal turned CIA asset now living in Los Angeles. Pierce and Vega stake out Jose Jr's hideout in Bakersfield, arresting Hart as he attempts to enter the house with a silenced pistol. Edgar is contacted when a note from Bosch is found in Elizabeth Clayton's purse after her arrest. By interviewing her, he successfully identifies the location of Walsh's compound. The news article about Bosch blows his cover when Walsh's men see his face in the paper. Stones and Carter take Bosch on the private jet, intending to execute him, but Bosch is able to kill both men in self defense before landing the plane at the nearest airport. Walsh and his remaining men narrowly escape the compound as the DEA raid it, shutting down the operation along with the Garcia Clinic. Pierce and Vega nail Hart with DNA found on his ski mask from the pharmacy shooting. Maddie confronts her father about his reckless behavior during the undercover operation, reminding him that he's the only family she has left. Crate plans a surprise retirement party for Barrel. Returning to the Borders appeal, Bosch contacts a prison guard who witnessed Olmer's confession, learning that the barely-conscious Olmer signed a prepared statement. Cronyn also used a handkerchief to wipe Olmer's hands, possibly gathering DNA to plant as evidence. With their operation busted, Walsh and his men plan to move to Canada, but Walsh considers taking revenge before they leave. Bosch seeks out Elizabeth, finding her strung out in another clinic. He takes her to a veterans' halfway house to detox.

Pierce and Vega are called to investigate a suitcase full of severed limbs found by a dumpster. Using footage from the alley where the suitcase was dumped, they narrow down the killing ground to an abandoned apartment where they find a bathtub full of dried blood. Bosch checks back at the halfway house, where he learns that Elizabeth has left. At the DA's office, Maddie sees a memo about the Border's case on Tom's desk, and takes a picture of it. As the Borders hearing commences, Chandler successfully argues standing based on Anderson's news story, which qualifies as an attack on Bosch's character. Once she has standing, Chandler easily dismantles the appeal, laying out Cronyn's conspiracy and even revealing Borders' marriage to Rita, who is present in her role as stenographer. The judge rejects Borders' appeal entirely, while Cronyn and Zelden are put under arrest. Edgar finally locates Bo Jonas, who claims he and Gary arrived at a spot where they were supposed to meet with Marcos and Arias, but instead were ambushed by two Jamaican men who killed Gary. Edgar begins to suspect Marco and Arias, and looks into their connection to Jacques Avrile. He confronts Avrile personally, identifying his involvement with the murder of his Edgar's uncle in Haiti. Tom figures out that Maddie copied his memo and breaks up with her. Troubled by recent events, Maddie tells her father that she plans to move out and go back to school the next day.

Before she leaves for college, Maddie admits to Bosch that she sent Tom's memo to Chandler before the hearing. She explains that she needs time away from Bosch and his cases. Bosch determines that Chandler leaked information about the Borders case to Anderson herself, in a gambit for standing. He brings Irving a duplicate of the crime scene photo proving the seahorse pendant was planted in Borders' apartment, inquiring who could have planted it. Irving shreds the duplicate in front of Bosch, confirming his own guilt while permanently burying the evidence. Pierce and Vega find their dismembered victim's head and hands hidden in the abandoned apartment, with a marking that connects it to another ongoing RHD case. The department throws Barrel a surprise retirement party, where he admits that he has decided not to retire after all. Walsh and his last two men sneak into Bosch's house to assassinate him, but Bosch thwarts and kills all three in the ensuing shootout. Edgar ruminates on the Gary Wise case and the connection to Jacques Avrile, who cannot be arrested or tried in the States for his crimes in Haiti. He confronts Marcos and Arias about their corruption and involvement with the murder, and the detectives reply with veiled threats confirming his suspicions. Irving announces his run for mayor. Bosch finds Elizabeth again, and she rejects his attempts to "save" her. Now aware that he's a cop, she reminds him that the police failed to solve her daughter's murder. Troubled by this, Bosch reopens the cold case.

Security footage at the hospital reveals that Stanley retrieved 34 vials of Caesium the night before, unaccounted for at the scene of the murder. FBI agents Brenner, Maxwell and Reece join the investigation, believing the perpetrators are planning to use the Caesium for some kind of terrorist attack. Alicia's account of a tattoo on one attacker's wrist leads them to the 308, a group of radical sovereign citizens monitored by the FBI as potential terrorists. Irving plans his mayoral campaign, and learns that Jun is pregnant. When Bosch warns him of the potential terrorist plot, Irving has Jun leave town. Edgar investigates detectives Marcos and Arias for corruption, but Marcos spots his van during a stakeout. Interning for Honey Chandler, Maddie brings her information leading to a potentially lucrative new case. Edgar connects with DEA agent Hovan to put him in touch with his Jamaican CI Winston, who Edgar suspects was involved in the murders of Marcos, Arias and Gary Wise. Bosch and Edgar investigate a homeless immigrant suffering severe burns and discover the Caesium stashed in his campsite, confirming that it was never in the possession of Kent's killers and putting an end to the terrorist alert. Heather goes into hiding with another 308 member and begins plotting to retaliate for her husband's death. Hitting dead ends with the 308 organization, Bosch investigates alternative angles. Through Kent's phone records, he learns that Kent had hired a private investigator to spy on Alicia, suspecting infidelity. Bosch begins to consider Alicia Kent as a suspect.

Bosch scrutinizes the Kent marriage, learning of financial strain between the couple and a prenuptial agreement granting Stanley half of Alicia's independent wealth contingent on a morals clause. He also discovers a discrepancy between the placement of a robe in Alicia's hostage photo and its location when she was found. He successfully negotiates a warrant from Judge Sobel to monitor and wiretap Alicia for 72 hours. Agent Hovan goes undercover as a drug dealer to meet with Avril about a money laundering scheme, but is buffered by Avril's right-hand man Remy Toussaint. While out drinking with Barrel, Ryan Rodgers suffers a near-fatal heart attack. Maddie introduces her father to her new boyfriend Antonio. Bosch reconnects with a sober Elizabeth Clayton, who calls him after seeing an old friend of Daisy's outside of her workplace, believing he might provide a lead in the murder. Still haunted by the case, Bosch runs the plates Elizabeth recorded and identifies the man as Alex Sands.

Impressed by the undercover Hovan, Toussaint brings him to meet with Avril personally. Irving marries Jun. Crate and Barrel investigate a turf war between two panhandlers that turned fatal. Barrel is shocked to learn that a hospitalized Ryan Rodgers died from a second heart attack. With time running out for the warrant to monitor Alicia Kent, Edgar searches footage on a hidden camera Stanley had set up in his own home to monitor Alicia. Under the pretense of retrieving her husband's belongings, Billets asks Alicia to come to the station. There, Bosch questions her about the discrepancy in the hostage photo, stalling for time until Edgar finds footage of Alicia roaming freely in her house during the time window when she was supposedly tied up. Alicia asks for a lawyer, and Honey Chandler arrives to represent her.

After counseling with Chandler, Alicia Kent seeks a plea deal for a two-year prison sentence, admitting to a conspiracy to scam her husband into violating their morals clause by stealing the Caesium, but denying any involvement with his killing. She reveals her lover to be Agent Maxwell, blaming her husband's death entirely on him. The police pursue Maxwell and Agent Reece, his partner, ends up shooting him dead. Bosch's investigation of the Daisy Clayton murder leads to Roy, Elizabeth's boyfriend at the time. Questioning Roy, he learns that Daisy and Alex Sands were running a scheme together where Daisy would meet with pedophile johns and Sands would videotape them for blackmail material. Bosch returns to Sands, who says he deleted the video files, but still provides Bosch with the laptop where he stored them. Vega vents to Pierce about her discomfort with Billets' habit of touching her subordinates' shoulders. Pierce advises Vega to confront Billets herself. Walon Strout is released from jail once cleared for involvement in the Kent case. Inflamed by Travis' death and the FBI's own involvement in the Kent murder, the 308 begin constructing a bomb.

Bosch and Edgar locate an audio recording of Alicia taking initiative in plotting her husband's murder, which could compromise her plea deal if Chandler can't suppress it in court. Uncomfortable with her personal connection to the Alicia Kent case, Maddie resigns from Chandler's office. At Ryan Rodgers' memorial party, his daughter Melissa chastises Irving for overworking her father. She provides Barrel with a cassette tape her father left behind, asking him to identify its contents. Barrel discovers a 1996 recording that implicates Irving in the coverup of the former police chief's involvement in a drive-by shooting. Pierce goes to Captain Cooper, informing him of Vega's complaints about Billets. Cooper calls in Vega, who downplays her discomfort and refuses to file a complaint. Pursuing a personal vendetta against Billets for a past grievance, Cooper decides to file a sexual harassment complaint on Vega's behalf. Edgar and Hovan put more pressure on Martin, who deliberately blow's Hovan's cover to Avril. Bosch brings Sands' laptop to a technician to retrieve the lost video files, and speaks to former detective Brent Charles about the "backseat butcher", a serial killer whose M.O. resembled Daisy's killing. A partial fingerprint proved that it was a copycat, but Daisy's crime scene included details known only to members of Charles' task force, all of whom were cleared.

Alicia Kent's trial is delayed when Chandler appeals to have the audio recording and wiretap material thrown out. With public focus on the homeless epidemic, Irving spearheads an inter-departmental initiative targeting homelessness. Ryan Rodgers' daughter leaks the cassette to Scott Anderson, who unsuccessfully attempts to blackmail Irving into securing him a position in his administration. Billets, Vega and Pierce all receive emails about the sexual harassment complaint filed by Cooper. All three try to dissuade Cooper, who nonetheless brings the matter to IA. Dwight Wise walks into Avril's hideout to confront him over the death of his son. With Hovan's cover blown, Edgar's investigation into Avril hits a dead end. Suspicious of Martin and seeking to insulate himself, Avril meets with Edgar and names Martin and Marvel as the Marcos and Arias shooters. Bosch retrieves Sands' video files and reaches a breakthrough when one of the blackmailed johns is identified as Roger Dillon, a crime scene cleaner who worked one of the backseat butcher scenes. Driving by Dillon's garage, Bosch sees a white van parked on the property.

Bosch visits Elizabeth to tell her he's found a likely suspect in her daughter's murder, but finds her drunk. IA looks into the sexual harassment complaint against Billets, but it backfires on Cooper when the investigator finds the complaint frivolous and looks into Cooper's agenda against her. Anderson gives the cassette tape to Irving's rival Jack Killoran, who blackmails him into dropping out of the mayoral race. Bosch gets a partial match between Roger Dillon's print and one found at Daisy's crime scene, securing a warrant to raid Dillon's business. Chains and a mattress are found in Dillon's van, as well as numerous young girls' school IDs, including Daisy's. Dillon is arrested, but denies killing any of the girls except Daisy. He explains that he delivers the girls to a human trafficking ring, and demands a reduced sentence for giving up the traffickers. Bosch explains the situation to Elizabeth, who is crestfallen. Jacques Avril wears a wire while meeting with Martin and Marvel, successfully manipulating them into overtly admitting the murders of Marcos and Arias. Both Jamaicans are arrested while Avril walks free. Dwight Wise is unsatisfied that Avril has still evaded justice himself, and Edgar pledges to continue pursuing Avril. Later, Remy Toussaint murders Dwight outside his home.

Roger Dillon's information leads to the bust of a human trafficking ring in which three young girls are rescued. In exchange for the information, Dillon cuts a deal for a manslaughter charge, claiming Daisy's killing was self defense. Bosch disconnects the camera in the interview room and terrorizes Dillon before leaving. Checking up on Elizabeth, he finds her dead from an overdose. Irving abruptly drops out of the mayoral race, backing candidate Lopez rather than Killoran. Infuriated by Dwight's murder, Edgar privately stakes out Avril's house and witnesses Toussaint breaking into Avril's backdoor, following him in. Billets later informs Bosch that Edgar was involved in a shooting where both Avril and Toussaint were killed. Edgar claims Avril murdered Toussaint and he shot Avril in self defense. His story clears questioning, but Bosch suspects the shooting was deliberate and warns Edgar it was the wrong move. As the Alicia Kent trial commences, Heather Strout conspires with other 308 members to smuggle a bomb into the courtroom. Barrel identifies the bomb threat and the courtroom is cleared as Bosch disposes of the bomb, preventing any casualties in the explosion. Suspecting Heather has a second bomb, Bosch warns Agent Reece that she may be approaching the FBI headquarters. Heather is successfully arrested en route. Alicia Kent is eventually convicted of conspiracy to murder her husband. Bosch, the sole attendee of Elizabeth Clayton's funeral, sees her buried next to her daughter in a family plot.
