List of Conus species

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list of Conus species is a listing of species in the genus Conus, a genus of sea snails, specifically cone snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Conidae.[1]

For many years, all of the cone snails were placed in the genus Conus. More recently a large number of species have been moved to other genera.

This list with about 800 accepted species relies on the taxonomy used in the World Register of Marine Species and the publication in 2015 by Puillandre N., Duda T.F., Meyer C., Olivera B.M. & Bouchet P. (2015). One, four or 100 genera? A new classification of the cone snails. Journal of Molluscan Studies. 81: 1-23 [2]
