This is the list of top ranked chess grandmasters, ordered by their peak Elo rating. The cut-off value is 2700.
Notably only six players achieved their over-2700 peak before the year 2000 and twenty-one players achieved their respective peak between the years 2000 and 2009 (inclusive).

- ^ FIDE considers a player active if they played a rated game within the past 12 months.[3]
- ^ The chart on Kramnik's FIDE profile gives his January 2002 rating as 2811.[4] The top 100 list for January 2002 gives 2809.[5] The discrepancy appears to be due to a delay in including the rating change of +2 from Kramnik's four draws with Garry Kasparov in the Botvinnik Memorial Match in December 2001 in the top 100 lists, where it only appears in October 2002.
