History[]

The first female head of a federal subject in the Russian Federation was Valentina Bronevich, who was  [ru] of Koryak Autonomous Okrug from 1996 to 2000.

Of the 85 current heads of federal subjects, one is a woman. This is Natalya Komarova, Governor of Khanty–Mansi Autonomous Okrug since 2010.
