Near Threatened (NT) species do not currently qualify for Critically Endangered (CR), Endangered (EN) or Vulnerable (VU), but are likely to qualify for a threatened category in the near future, or are already close to qualifying.

As of September 2016, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists 548 near threatened fish species.[1] 3.6% of all evaluated fish species are listed as near threatened. The IUCN also lists seven fish subspecies as near threatened.

Of the subpopulations of fishes evaluated by the IUCN, ten species subpopulations have been assessed as near threatened.
