List of parodies in Gintama

The Japanese anime series Gin Tama often parodies other anime, manga, films and television series. The following is a list of those parodies.

Parodied work Episodes Notes
Ashita no Joe 1+2, 19, 23 Kagura describes how to jab and appears similar to Danpei Tange whilst also mentioning crossing Namidabashi Bridge (Bridge of Tears).

In a scene where Shinpachi is begging for water, Kagura mentions there is water in the barrel Sadaharu is carrying. When he goes to inspect it, the cork is bound to the barrel with string. This references a scene from Ashita no Joe where Rikiishi attempts to get water from a series of taps only to find that they have all been tied shut with string.

Whilst thirsty, Kagura mentions not caring about boxing anymore and just wanting a drink of water, referencing Rikiishi's intense training to make weight. She also mentions Joe and 'being an udon guy', which references Nishi's weight management as well.

Bleach 89 Gintoki, Shinpachi and Kagura awake in the world of Toyako, Gintoki's bokken.
Cat's Eye 35 After robbing Shinpachi, Eromes reveals herself as the phantom thief, Cat's Ear, a parody of Cat's Eye.
Detective Conan 25 Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura try to solve an issue, capture a black shadow and uncover the secret of an unknown message
Dragon Ball 242 Gin, Shinpachi, Kagura visit a host club with others. After Ms. Yagami, a customer, mentions she drinks Oolong Highball, a discussion starts among the characters about their favorite Dragon Ball characters.
Fist of the North Star 18 The scene of the panty thief's defeat is an homage to the death of Raoh.
Golgo 13 35 During the Shinsengumi section of the episode, Kondo refers to himself as 'Gorilla 13', a parody of Golgo 13. Additionally, Sougo refers to himself as 'Sogo 13', and Hijikata refers to himself as 'Mayo 13'.
Hajime no Ippo 28 Otae performs a Dempsey Roll on Kondo when he pulls over to speak to her.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 131-134 This whole arc parodies a lot of references in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
Lupin III 18 The scene of the panty thief running along a wall with a spotlight on him is a recreation of a scene from the first Lupin III anime.
Saw 148, 149 Hijikata and Okita wake up in an abandoned building and learn they have been kidnapped by Jigzaw.
Star Wars 23 The planet that the spaceship crash lands on is most likely inspired by Tatooine, as it is entirely covered by desert and has two suns.
Super Mario 35 The magazine that Gintoki is holding at the beginning of the episode has Mario on the cover.
