Gibson also reportedly produced a number of electric Mandocellos, starting in 1937.[4]

Violin Family[]

Gibson ventured into the manufacture of violin-family instruments from 1939 until 1942. Supplies of commercial violins from Germany and Japan were unavailable due to World War II, giving American manufacturers a period of protection from overseas competition [5]
