List of rulers of Papua

This is a list of rulers of Papua from proto-historical times until the present. Mapping of Islamic kingdoms in Papua is generally divided into three regions, namely, Islamic kingdoms in the Raja Ampat Islands, Fakfak and Kaimana. The Islamic kingdom in Papua is often called Petuanan.[1] The majority of Islamic kingdoms in Papua are under the control of the Sultanate in Maluku, they are given autonomy to run their respective governments.[2] The small Islamic kingdoms in Raja Ampat, Fakfak and Kaimana were the result of a centuries-long process of acculturation of Papuan culture and Maluku culture.[3] The tribal system is still very visible in the Islamic kingdoms in Papua. The system of government is in the form of a kingdom, but in carrying out the government the Customary Council system is used.[4]

Islamic Kingdom in Raja Ampat[]

In the book of Peta Sejarah di Tanah Papua (2007) by Luksan Hutagaol et al, The Islamic kingdom in the Raja Ampat archipelago consists of:

  • Waigeo Kingdom with the seat of government in Weweyai, Waigeo Island
  • Salawati Kingdom with the seat of government in Sailolof, Salawati Island
  • Misool Kingdom with the seat of government in Lilinta, Misool Island
  • Batanta Kingdom with the seat of government in Batanta Island

Islamic Kingdom in Fakfak[]

In the book of Islam dan Kristen di Tanah Papua (2006) by J.F. Onim, The Islamic kingdoms in the Fakfak region consisted of:

  • Fatagar Kingdom with the seat of government in Merapi, Fakfak
  • Atiati Kingdom with the seat of government in Wartutin, Fakfak
  • Rumbati Kingdom with the seat of government in Ega Island, Onin Peninsula
  • Wertuar Kingdom with the seat of government in Kokas, Fakfak
  • Arguni Kingdom with the seat of government in Arguni Island, Fakfak

Islamic Kingdom in Kaimana[]

The following are Islamic kingdoms in the Kaimana Regency:

  • Namatota Kingdom with the seat of government in Bomberai Peninsula, Kaimana
  • Kaimana Kingdom with the seat of government in Adi Island, Kaimana
  • Patipi Kingdom with the seat of government in Patipi, Kaimana
  • Sekar Kingdom with the seat of government in Kokoda, South Sorong
