On May 13, 2020, B. J. McLeod announced that his team, B. J. McLeod Motorsports, would be running part-time in the Cup Series with him as the driver.[3] On October 23, 2020, it was announced that McLeod and Matt Tifft had teamed up with Joe Falk to acquire the charter from Go Fas Racing. Tifft was a former Cup Series driver who had to put his racing career on hold due to health issues in 2019.[4] On November 20, 2020, the team announced its name, Live Fast Motorsports, and would continue to use the number 78. Although McLeod's primary manufacturer was Chevrolet in 2020, they are running Fords in 2021.[5]

At the Daytona 500, McLeod would finish 23rd in the race. Even ran high as second when he and his fellow competitors went back out on the track for pace laps following a rain delay.

The following race, McLeod would take the week off driving duties, while Scott Heckert drove the Daytona Road Course. Heckert would drive the No. 78 to a 28th-place finish.

McLeod would then drive the car in the next several races until the Food City Dirt Race when dirt racer Shane Golobic would drive the No. 78 in his Cup debut. However, Golobic would be involved in a crash along with Aric Almirola, Corey LaJoie and Anthony Alfredo, causing him to finish 37th as a DNF.

McLeod would resume his driving duties for the next several races until the EchoPark Texas Grand Prix where Kyle Tilley drove the No. 78. Tilley finished 31st in his Cup debut.

Tilley would also participate in the Jockey Made in America 250 (Placed 35th in the race a few laps down after Tilley lost a tire and drove into the gravel trap.), the Go Bowling at The Glen (Placed 30th).

Before the Verizon 200, Tilley had a shoulder injury, culminating in Andy Lally practicing the car. However, Lally would end up participating in the race (Which was Lally’s first Cup start in a decade.). However rear gear issues caused Lally to drop out of the race.

McLeod then participated in the remaining races except the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway where Scott Heckert drove the No. 78 for the second time, this time Heckert placed 26th, currently his best finish in the Cup series. Heckert would also compete in the Bank of America Roval 400.

At the 2021 Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona, McLeod scored the organization’s first top ten by finishing ninth.
