Live Ocean

Live Ocean (www.liveocean.com [1]) is a New Zealand registered ocean conservation charity founded by Olympic gold and silver medallists Peter Burling and Blair Tuke.

Live Ocean was founded by Tuke and Burling out of their belief that New Zealand needs to step up to the challenge to protect and restore the oceans. Live Ocean's vision is for New Zealand to be a world leading champion in ocean health. The mission is to amplify and accelerate positive ocean action in New Zealand.[1]

Live Ocean partners with promising people and projects with a focus on marine science, innovation and positive action.[2]

In order to drive positive change, Live Ocean relies on the generosity and support of fellow ocean lovers. Donations can be made via the Live Ocean website, and 100% of donations go towards supporting critical initiatives that focus on accelerating ocean action in New Zealand.

Activities[]

Live Ocean's initial project is the race to save the endangered Antipodean Albatross.[3][4][5][6]

Hauraki Gulf[]

In March 2021, Live Ocean released an online video series with the aim of saving the Hauraki Gulf in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. They had a stated goal of achieving 30 percent protection of the Hauraki Gulf by 2030, as was demanded by scientists internationally.[7]

The charity endorsed the new protection measures for the Hauraki Gulf that were announced by the New Zealand government on 22 June 2021.[8]
