Living Values Education

Living Values Education (LVE) is a provider of professional development courses for children, educators, youth and parents as well as street children, drug offenders, and other youthful offenders. It is run by Association for Living Values Education International (ALIVE), a non-profit organization in Geneva, Switzerland.

In addition to practical activities in group workshops, classroom activity and study groups, LVE also provides Online Correspondence Courses.

As of November 2018, LVE had 30 associate representative country organizations and 15 country Focal Points, with 40 countries using the program

Structure[]

ALIVE was founded in 2004 as an international coordinating organization for the LVE program. LVE has been supported by UNESCO agencies, governmental bodies, foundations, community groups and individuals. It is part of the global movement of the United Nations International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World. [13]

LVE works to promote values awareness with an emphasis of school education, It supports children, youth, educators, parents, business and communities in understanding, developing and sharing values in daily life.

Activities[]

LVE provides professional development courses with educational resource materials to help educators and others develop universal values, according to their cultural background.

LVE focuses on twelve primary values: Peace, Love, Respect, Tolerance, Responsibility, Humility, Honesty, Cooperation, Happiness, Simplicity, Freedom, Unity expressed through attitude, behavior and relationships. LVE emphasizes the worth and integrity of each person involved in the provision of education, in the home, school and community. LVE promotes the development of values-based learning communities. LVE believes that values awareness is a fundamental purposeful activity designed to help humanity flourish. [13]

In 2001, LVE's series of five books won 'The Teachers' Choice Award' by Learning Magazine,[5] This series of three age group (3–7), (8–14), (Young Adults) activity books were re-edited in 2019.

In 2019, LVE introduced distance facilitator training programs and more regional gatherings of ALIVE membership. It also revamped the website, offering more downloadable resources.

Special risk[]

LVE has special programmes exist for children at risk including refugees and Children Affected by War (LVARCAW), street children, [6] youth in need of drug rehabilitation and young offenders.

The Ministry of Labor in Vietnam noted in March 2008 that LVE’ drug rehabilitation program was the most successful drug rehab program in government rehabilitation clinics in the country. [13]
