"Lonely" is a song by American rappers DaBaby and Lil Wayne. It was released through South Coast Music Group and Interscope Records as the third single from DaBaby's upcoming fourth studio album. The two artists wrote the song alongside DJ K.i.D, Benjamin Lasnier, and Pilfinger.

Background[]

DaBaby opens the song up with the first verse, in which it is a possible reaction to the backlash and controversy that he had faced from making controversial comments in July 2021 during his performance at Rolling Loud. In the chorus, he repeats the line, "Lonely, lonely, baby". The second verse sees him reference the death of his older brother, Glenn Johnson, who died from committing suicide on November 3, 2020. Wayne then comes in on the third verse, which shows him use "some classic twisty Weezy logic" while he "raps in his rapid-fire cadence".[1] On September 9, 2021, DaBaby announced that he would be releasing a new song later in the day in collaboration with "the Best Rapper Alive", which is a nickname of Lil Wayne's.[2] The song serves as the second collaboration between DaBaby and Wayne, following their features alongside Canadian rapper and singer Tory Lanez on the remix of American rapper Jack Harlow's single, "Whats Poppin", which appears on his debut studio album, Thats What They All Say (2020).

Music video[]

The official music video for the song was published to DaBaby's YouTube channel on September 13, 2021. It is dedicated to his late older brother, Glenn Johnson.[3] At the beginning, DaBaby pulls a handgun out and starts shooting, which causes a huge tension.[4] Wayne then joins DaBaby for his verse, and the video ends with them raising mental health awareness.
