"Looking Good Diving" is a 1987 song performed by Morgan-McVey, who were vocalists Jamie Morgan and Cameron McVey. It was their only single.[2] Originally imagined as a Simon & Garfunkel-style two-part male vocal duo, who planned to harmonise over reggae beats, the band's early demos failed to effectively deliver on the concept.[3] Facing a creative crisis, their record company Sony suggested they work with pop producers Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW), a plan that left them with mixed feelings.[3]

Morgan says the final SAW version closely followed the structure of their demo, notably keeping the distinctive keyboard hook.[3] Morgan denies that the song is about cunnilingus, instead saying it is about looking good while striving to impress a love interest.[3]

The single's B-side was called "Looking Good Diving with the Wild Bunch" and featured Neneh Cherry. The track formed the basis of her 1988 hit single "Buffalo Stance".

Music video[]

The music video for "Looking Good Diving" features the duo with Neneh Cherry on guitar and Naomi Campbell on the keyboard. Morgan says both he and McVey were left deeply embarrassed by the video, but he feels it has now become iconic as a "so naff and so 80s video" that is now seen as "so bad it's good".[3] However, in the immediate aftermath of the single release, McVey became so consumed by his embarrassment, he abandoned the act to work with future wife Cherry.[3]
