The gallery building was initially built before the World War II as a government office. In 2007, Macau Chief Executive Edmund Ho paid an official visit to Melaka. The MoU was signed by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Fernando Chui.[6][7]

The building was then underwent renovations and converted into the gallery with the opening was done on 26 June 2012 attended by Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam, Malacca City Mayor Zainal bin Abu, Macau Social Affairs and Culture Secretary Cheong U and Macau Government Tourist Offices Director Joao Manuel Costa Antunes.[8][9]
