Maho Kuwako (桑子 真帆, Kuwako Maho, born May 30, 1987) is a Japanese announcer and news anchor at NHK, Japan's public broadcaster. She is currently an anchor of NHK's morning news show NHK News Ohayō Nippon. She served as the assistant to Tamori in NHK's Bura Tamori, a geographic television series, between April 2015 and April 2016.
Early years[]
Born in Kawasaki, Japan, Kuwako was raised and educated in the area. She graduated from the School of Language and Culture Studies of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS), where she majored Czech language.
Career[]
After graduating from TUFS in 2010, Kuwako was hired by NHK. She started her career at NHK Nagano Broadcasting Station in Nagano Prefecture, where she served three years as a temporary correspondent and a navigator of some local TV programs. Then she was relocated to NHK Hiroshima Broadcasting Station in Hiroshima. Waratchao!, one of the preschool programs, is her debut program where she starred on a regular basis.
In April 2015, Kuwako was reassigned to Tokyo Announcement Room and appointed as an assistant for NHK's travel program Bura Tamori, which helped grow her popularity. At the same time, she became a newscaster for some news shows, such as NHK News 7 and Shutoken News 845.
In April 2016, Kuwako became an anchor for News Check 11 with Yoshio Arima until 2017.
In April 2017, Kuwako and Arima were appointed as anchors for News Watch 9.
In April 2020, Kuwako stepped down from News Watch 9 and moved to the weekday edition of NHK News Ohayō Nippon. The anchor for News Watch 9 was handed over to Mayuko Wakuda, who was at that time one of the weekday anchors for NHK News Ohayō Nippon.[1][2]
In 2020, Kuwako narrated the travel segment of Taiga Drama Kirin ga Kuru (English title: Awaiting Kirin). Since 2020, Kuwako has hosted the infotainment program Takeshi no Sonotoki Camera wa Mawatte Ita (Takeshi Presents: Camera Was Rolling At That Time) with Takeshi Kitano.
Personal life[]
Kuwako married Shinichi Tanioka, a Fuji Television announcer, on May 30, 2017, which was her 30th birthday.[3]
The Sankei Sports newspaper wrote that Kuwako had divorced Tanioka just one year after their marriage.[4]
On September 1, 2021, Kuwako remarried with actor Yukiyoshi Ozawa.[5]
