Maifest

Maifest (or Mayfest in English) is the traditional German celebration of the arrival of spring. Maifest is still celebrated throughout Germany with the maibaum (maypole) decorated to show off the history and crafts of the town.

Maifest, similar to Oktoberfest, has now become a popular celebration throughout the world. It has been celebrated in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States since 1873.^[1]

One of the most popular celebrations of Maifest is that of Brenham, Texas, a town with a heavy German ancestry. The Maifest is an ongoing attraction for an entire weekend which highlights the towns proud German heritage with historical demonstrations and displays.^{[citation needed]}

In the central region of the United States, the 19th-century German town of Hermann, Missouri celebrates Maifest the third weekend of May. Details about the annual event can be found on the city's Tourism website (visithermann.com)
