Major is an upcoming Indian biographical action film directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka and produced by Sony Pictures India, G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment and A+S Movies. Shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi and later dubbed into Malayalam, it is based on the life of 2008 Mumbai attacks martyr Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. Adivi Sesh (in his Hindi film debut) portrays Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, the title character, in addition to writing the script.[1]

The film is scheduled for release on 11 February 2022.[2]

Premise[]

Inspired by true events, the film portrays how Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan saved the lives of numerous hostages before being martyred by terrorists in the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai on November 26, 2008 during the infamous attack on the heritage hotel.

The film was announced in February 2019, with Adivi Sesh in the lead role.[7] The film is produced by actor Mahesh Babu under his studio G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment, in a collaboration with Sony Pictures India and A+S Movies.[8][9]

Filming[]

Part of the film was shot at Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Mumbai.

Principal photography began in February 2020.[10][11] By September 2020, more than 50% of the film had been shot, and further shooting is planned to take place in Hyderabad in October 2020.[12] Sobhita Dhulipala filming completed her portions in November 2020.[13]

Release[]

The release date of film has been postponed due to uncertainty prevailing about the reopening of movie theaters.[14] The film is now scheduled for release on 11 February 2022.[15]
