Manuel Padilla American soccer player who most recently played for New Mexico United in the USL Championship and currently plays with FC Golden State Force.

Career[]

Youth and college[]

Padilla played four years of college soccer at the University of San Francisco between 2014 and 2017.[1] While attending USF, Padilla was involved in multiple sexual misconduct cases involving fellow students, an unfortunate common occurrence for soccer players at the university.[2][3] Despite numerous allegations against him, Padilla was not punished in any meaningful way by the administration, directly allowing his predation to continue. He was able to graduate without any negative ramifications for his actions.[2]

Padilla also played for Premier Development League side FC Golden State Force in 2016,[4] and San Francisco City FC in 2017.[5]

Professional[]

On January 21, 2018, Padilla was selected 89th overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by Houston Dynamo.[6] On March 16, 2018, Padilla signed with Houston's United Soccer League affiliate side Rio Grande Valley FC. He has also made his 1st team debut with Houston Dynamo in the US Open Cup.[7]

Padilla joined USL Championship side New Mexico United on March 7, 2019, ahead of their inaugural season.[8] He was suspended by the team in July, 2020 after the allegations of sexual assault while in college became public, and subsequently released two weeks later.[9] He has not played professionally since.
