Manolis Saliakas (Greek: Μανώλης Σάλιακας, born 12 September 1996) is a Greek professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Super League club PAS Giannina.[1]
Club career[]
Saliakas began his football career attending the Ergotelis Youth Academy, the youth system of his local Super League club Ergotelis. Already capped with the Greek U17 national football team, Saliakas was spotted by Olympiacos' scouts, who arranged his transfer to the Super League champions in the winter of 2013.[2]
It was difficult to find a place in Olympiakos, and the 31 games in Cyprus, on loan at -the newly enlightened- Karmiotissa based in Limassol, favored the plan, before he returned to play for two years in the Chania FC of the Football League Greece and distinguished himself, scoring 7 goals in 50 games. In the summer of 2019, in Pedro Martins's Olympiakos, Saliakas was complicated to find enough space. The presence of the irreplaceable Omar Elabdellaoui and his reserves (Bruno Gaspar, Vasilis Torosidis) blocked the way to stay in the red and white roster and the solution of Lamia F.C., with free transfer, was a option that only had benefits, after 29 consecutive appearances in all competitions. In the summer of 2020 Saliakas signed a contract with PAS Giannina.[3] [4]
According to various reports, PAS Giannina's right-back has attracted the interest of FC Twente with the Dutch side undecided whether to sign him in January transfer window or join next season via pre-contract. The 25 year old's current deal with the PAS Giannina ends in June 2022.[5]
International career[]
He made his debut for Greece national football team on 3 June 2021 in a friendly against Belgium. He substituted Thanasis Androutsos in the 80th minute.[6]
