Marasimha II Satyavakya was the 23rd king of the Western Ganga Dynasty. He was the successor of who reigned 961–963. He was succeeded by Rachamalla IV Satyavakya (975–986), his son.
Reign[]
He was a loyal feudatory of the Rashtrakutas and served them till their demise faithfully. He was an able military leader and defeated the Pallavas of Kanchi for his overlord, Karka II.[1] Chamundaraya was his loyal and able prime minister.[2][3]
Death[]
He starved himself to death by the Jain ritual of Sallekhana in 975/974. His death sparked a civil war in the Western Ganga dynasty, and his former able and loyal prime minister Chavundaraya helped Marasimha's eldest son Rachamalla ascend the throne, and Rachamalla came to the throne as Rachamalla IV Satyvakya.
