Marcos Caballero Quiroga is a Paraguayan professional footballer who most recently played for Sportivo Ameliano. Caballero also had appearances for Tacuary, and General Díaz.[1]

Career[]

Youth career[]

Caballero signed with Sportivo Ameliano when he was 14.[3] Under the coaching of , he played on their U20 side until 2002.[2]

2003: Debut season[]

Both the U20 team goalkeeper, José Cardozo, and himself were promoted to the first-team in the 2003 season, when Caballero scored a total of 12 goals.[2] He scored against Capitan Figari in a 2–1 victory that made Sportivo Ameliano champions of the 2003 Paraguay fourth-tier.[4]

2004–2018: Successive seasons[]

Caballero scored 11 goals in his 2008 campaign, which tied him with Deportivo Recoleta's for the most goals scored in the league.[5]

2019: Promotion to División Intermedia[]

On the last day of the 2019 Primera División B season, Caballero scored the only goal in the 81st minute of Sportivo Ameliano's 1–0 victory that earned the team promotion to the División Intermedia in 2020.[6]

2020–2021: División Intermedia[]

In August 2021, Caballero scored in the 18th minute of a 2–1 victory against Sport Colonial in the Copa Paraguay.[7]

In October 2021, he told Crónica that he wanted Sportivo Ameliano to be promoted to the Primera División Paraguaya and that he wanted to retire after playing in at least one game in the Primera División.[1]

Personal life[]

Caballero has a football coaching licence and aims to coach the lower divisions at Sportivo Ameliano.[1]
