Mary McNally (born 1955) is an American politician that currently serves as a Democratic member of the Montana Senate.

Political career[]

McNally began her political career in 2010 when she was elected to the Montana House of Representatives, representing District 49, which included part of the Billings area. She succeeded Kendall Van Dyk, and was reelected in 2012 for a second term.[1]

In 2014, McNally once again sought reelection to the Montana House of Representatives. During the midst of the 2014 election, Montana State Senator Kendall Van Dyk of district 24 announced he was suspending his reelection campaign because he was expecting a child. Though Van Dyk appeared on the primary ballot he endorsed McNally to replacer him as the democratic nominee. Subsequently, McNally was appointed by the Yellowstone County Democratic Central Committee as the democratic nominee for the senate seat and would replace Van Dyk on the ballot. Additionally, the county central committee appointed Kathy Kelker to replace McNally as the democratic nominee for the house seat.[2][3] Both McNally and Kelker won their races. McNally was reelected in 2018.

Personal life[]

Prior to her election, McNally taught business at several universities. She was Academic Dean of Sinte Gleska College and taught at the Montana State University Billings College of Business between 1988 and 2017 where she was Interim Dean of the College of Business between 2005 and 2006.

McNally is married to Monte Smith.[4][5]
