Mathew Thomas (born 16 October 2002) is an Indian actor who appears in Malayalam films. He is known for portraying Franky in his debut movie Kumbalangi Nights and Jaison in Thanneer Mathan Dinangal.[1][2]

Early life[]

Mathew Thomas was born 16 October 2002 in Thiruvamkulam, Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. His father, Biju John Thuruthiyil, works as a Civil Engineer and his mother, Susan Mathew is a Mathematics teacher in RMHSS Higher Secondary School Vadavucode. His Elder brother John Thomas is an MSW student. He did his pre school in Hagia Sophia Public school , Kochi. He also studied in Indian School Manama in Bahrain , when his parents were temporarily employed there. Upon his return he joined Gregorian Public school Maradu, where he got selected for his debut movie. Presently Mathew is doing BA Communicative English in Chinamaya collage of Arts, Science and Commerce, Tripunithura.

Career[]

He was selected for Kumbalangi Nights (2019) by an audition held in his school. The story is about four orphaned siblings, among them, Franky is a high-school student who keeps their home up and running, as the other three are happy-go-lucky.[3] He lodged six months on location, undergoing several training sessions, such as swimming, football, casting a fishnet, rowing boat among others. The film was a critical and commercial success.[4] It was followed by the lead role in Thanneer Mathan Dinangal (2019), a teenage romance film about a high-school student, Jaison. It received highly positive reviews from both critics and audience. The film collected ₹55 crore at box office and become a blockbuster. He appeared in a cameo role as young Benjamin Louis in the crime thriller Anjaam Pathiraa (2020), which became a Box office hit. He also acted a brief role in cyber crime thriller movie Operation Java. Then he played a supporting character in Mammootty starrer One, where his performance was well praised by critics and audience.[5] His upcoming movies are Prakashan Parakkatte written by Dhyan Sreenivasan,[6] Vishudha Mejo by newcomer Kiran Antony and Jo and Jo directed by Arun.
