Mathia is a 2004 Indian Kokborok-language film. It is written and directed by Joseph Pulinthanath and stars Meena Debbarma, Jayanta Jamatia and Amulya Jamaita.[4]
Plot[]
In a far Tripuri village of Tripura, a group of youth goes for cultivating huk(Jhum), singing along. They come across a house of a woman who is supposedly being said to be the Swkal(Witch). The rest of the plot shows how she is being recognised as a witch which she is not, but the villagers treats her very unfriendly way, forcing her to live outside the village, but a young man falls in love with her, who had a view that the society is evil, and does not believe that witch exit it's just our social evil, he try to convince people. But there is a plot twist certain people dies unnatural dead, that all blamed was to put on the Swkal, she was than capture by men and given a custom punishment to bury her alive, they dug holes, inside it, and started pouring mud, than the young men comes, explaining this is evil, what you all are doing is evil, he than took that women with him. This social custom to bury any women who is acclaimed to be witch by the society is buried, this are targeted mostly to poor people who lives alone, or who has no power to raise voice, has their voice are being stab by the society elders. This film tried to showcase a clear picture of society evil social custom, and a small allegations could ruins someone life.
