McLaren Ridge is named for William Allen McLaren, a Canadian engineer currently (2021) retired and living in southeastern British Columbia. McLaren graduated in 1960 from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree.[2] In 1964 and 1965 he was a glaciologist with the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions based in Wilkes Station in Antarctica.
