Meas Soksophea (Khmer: មាស សុខសោភា) (born January 29, 1984) is a Cambodian singer who appeared in 2004 for the production of Rasmey Stung Sangke. Introduced her during 2005 through the song (101 Reasons) released by Chenla Brother Production, Sok Sophea overcame her song. International video (Video evolution) called (Vevo) in 2013.

Early life[]

Meas Soksophea was born on January 29, 1984 in Kampong Speu province to a father named Meas Sarim, a former director of the Kampong Speu Provincial Department of Industry, and a mother. Sok Vilun is a former employee of the Department of Industry. Sok Sophea has three siblings and she is the second child in the family. The eldest son in the family, Meas Sokratanak, is also a songwriter. He is currently the general manager of Town Production and the youngest son, Meas Sok Vannak is a military officer. In 1990, Sok Sophea's family decided to move from Kampong Speu province to live in Kandal province's Kien Svay district for a while, her father died, so the burden of providing for the family fell on his children. Sok Sophea herself and her brother, so they decided to sing at various weddings with a small salary, until 2000, Cambodia experienced the biggest flood in the country (Cambodia: Floods 2000). It affected the Cambodian economy the most, with a loss of approximately $ 161 million And affected about 750,000 people.[1] As a result, it affected Sok Sophea's income. Due to the severe financial crisis, Sok Sophea decided to drop out of high school in the 10th grade, and she moved for the second time, leaving Kandal province. Came to Phnom Penh in 2002 and continued to sing in restaurants and entertainment centers in Phnom Penh until she had the opportunity to sing in the production - Reaksmey Stung Sangke in 2004.[2]

Music career[]

Popularity (2005-2009)[]

During 2005, Sok Sophea left Production - Reaksmey Stung Sangke to join Chenla Brother Production - She released a number of songs, including (101 Reasons) which she received support. And many popular in Cambodia, which used to be included in the International Music Television called (MTV).[3] Until 2008, Chenla-Brother Production announced the closure of its production, so Sok Sophea joined M-Production, which released the first album, "Excuse" became a Hits album. The most listened song in Cambodia, which became the Hots Song on TV (TV music show) in the top songs on Channel 9 Top1 Music Cambodia TV9 and Top1 Music Radio FM.97 (2008) by Apsara Radio FM 97 as well. Her next song was "1000 Nights" released by M CD Vol.5, which was also a popular song at the time.[4]

Khmer Traditional Pop Music (2009)[]

In 2009, Sok Sophea left M-Production to join (Sunday Production). A song for the season of Khmer New Year (Khmer Traditional Music) in the song "Come Dance New Year" released by Production - Sunday Album CD Vol.104 is also a popular song for the rhythm Khmer traditional music that was very popular during that time. Seeing that Sok Sophea himself did not seem to be interested in the audience at that time and did not have many fans, Sok Sophea left Production-Sunday to join (Town Production) in 2010.[5]

Meas Soksophea Music Japan Tour (2011)[]

In 2010, after leaving the Sunday production Sok Sophea joined Town production and released a song on her debut album "I am Sorry", which is also a popular song until the year in 2011, her fans invited her to perform in Japan through the Cambodian Association of Japan. Sok Sophea also received a lot of support from Cambodians living in Japan.[6]

Accolades and achievements (2013)[]

In 2013, it was a success for Sok Sophea to win the Female Singer Artist of the Year award from Sabay Company. Many artists attend the Koh Pich Theater on the night of August 15, 2013.[7] After winning the Anachakdara Award, Sok Sophea put her song into the international music video (Video evolution), also known as (Vevo), an American multinational video hosting service known as Video Level. Best Music Video for YouTube Music submission of Sok Sophea songs through Khmer Tree Music Group to turn music videos into international music videos.[8]

Brand Ambassador[]

During 2014, Huawei, a Chinese multinational technology corporation headquartered in Shenzhen, China, officially selected Meas Sok Sophea as its Goodwill Ambassador, Brand Ambassador of the smartphone company (Huawei Cambodia), Mr. Carry Yang, CEO of (Huawei) in Cambodia, said that he was very happy to partner in this work, he confirmed that the selection of singer Meas Soksophea as a representative of this promotion. Because he believes that Miss Meas Soksophea, a famous singer in Cambodia, is suitable for a world-famous product like this Huawei brand.[9]

During 2015, Meas Soksophea and Korean male singer Kim Hyung-jun, known as a well-known Korean group, were members of a South Korean band. (SS501) was named as Goodwill Ambassador of the Korean humanitarian organization W-Foundation / Cambodia on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 through a project called HIP, which focuses on providing health care and education programs to Cambodian workers working in Korean garment factories in Cambodia as well.[10]

Environmental protection (2014-2016)[]

During 2014, Sok Sophea participated in forest protection with community members in the Oral area in Kampong Speu province by arranging for tree reforestation. Sok Sophea claimed that his tree planting activities This is done to cultivate the idea of rekindling the love of nature. Sok Sophea came out shaking hands with villagers and monks to protect the forest in an area in the Oral Mountains known as Phnom Aural in Trapeang Chor District Kampong Speu, which is suffering from deforestation, shaking hands with people in the Oral Mountains to protect the forest is done in its own project Named the "10,000 Trees," the project began with the support of the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia and local communities.[11]

Meas Soksophea Earth Hour (2016)[]

During 2016, Sok Sophea inspired young people to participate in the Earh Hour, a global movement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature, which is held annually. By encouraging individuals, communities and businesses to turn off non-essential electricity to reduce global pollution to contribute to climate change mitigation. Earth Hour Day was held at the Royal University of Phnom Penh on March 19, 2016 under the auspices of Cellcard Cambodia.[12]
