Meenava Nanban (transl. Friend of fishermen) is a 1977 Indian Tamil-language film written and directed by C. V. Sridhar. The film stars M. G. Ramachandran and Latha, with M. N. Nambiar, Nagesh among others enacting supporting roles. Mgr was fisherman role after Padagotti. It was released on 14 August 1977, before Independence day ,[1] and ran 100 days in Chennai.


Plot[]

Kumaran, a nice adventurer comes to take the defense of the fishermen exploited by Nagaraj, the notable of the place. Kamali, his daughter will fall in love with Kumaran. Together, they will continue the fight against the injustice.

Meenava Nanban was the second and last collaboration of M. G. Ramachandran with the director C. V. Sridhar, after Urimaikural (1974). Actor and director Santhana Bharathi who worked as assistant director recalled that another famous director P. Vasu joined as assistant in the film's unit.[2]

Soundtrack[]

The soundtrack was composed by M. S. Viswanathan and lyrics written by Muthulingam, Vaali and Pulamaipithan.[3] Muthulingam recalled that Ramachandran came to know that he did not write any song, he insisted him to write the song "Thangathil Mugam Eduthu".[4] The song "Pongum Kadalosai" is based on Valaji raga.[5]
