Life and career[]

1995–present: Early life and career beginnings[]

Melinda Ademi was born on 19 November 1995 into an Albanian family in the city of Mitrovica, Kosovo, then part of the FR Yugoslavia, present Kosovo.[1][2] Her family left Kosovo and moved to the United States as a refugee due to the persecution of Albanians initiated with the disintegration of Yugoslavia and the following Kosovo War.[1][3] She began her career on the talent show American Idol in 2011, where she was chosen as a participant, although without achieving a good position. She returned to the same contest two years later, reaching the semifinals. In 2015 she released her first single "Purr", but it is not until 2018 with the release of "Lulija" when she gets recognition and fame for the entire Albanian diaspora in the world.

Artistry[]

Ademi has stated that she is a fan of Albanian singer and songwriter Elvana Gjata.[4]
