Metasilicate
Metasilicates are silicates containing ions of empirical formula SiO2−
3. Common stoichiometries include MI
2SiO3 and MIISiO3.
Common compounds containing metasilicate anion are:
- Metasilicic acid (hydrogen metasilicate)
- Sodium metasilicate
- Calcium metasilicate
Sodium metasilicate is a metasilicate with formula Na2SiO3- Sodium metasilicate is used in fireproofing mixtures; in laundry, dairy, metal, and floor cleaning; in deinking paper; in washing carbonated drink bottles; in insecticides, fungicides, and antimicrobial compounds; as a chemical intermediate for silica gel catalysts; as an additive in soaps and synthetic detergents
