Michael Deacon (journalist)

Michael Deacon (born 1980)^[1] is a British author and political satirical journalist. Since 2010, a Daily Telegraph columnist, he made his name as its parliamentary sketch writer.^[2]^{[better source needed]}

After graduating from Sheffield University, Deacon worked for the lads' magazine Zoo Weekly and as a newspaper television reviewer prior to succeeding Andrew Gimson in 2011 as parliamentary sketchwriter for The Daily Telegraph;^[3]^[4] Deacon was previously the Daily Telegraph's television critic and was shortlisted for the 2014 British Press Awards "Broadcast Columnist of the Year"^[5] and "Critic of the Year",^[6] losing out to Mark Steel and David Sexton^[7] respectively.^[8] He has also appeared on the BBC Radio 4 show The News Quiz

Deacon lives with his wife and family in Gravesend, Kent.^[9]
