Miguel Ángel López Castro (born 25 March 1997) is a Cuban volleyball player, member of the Cuba men's national volleyball team, participant of the Olympic Games (Rio 2016). On club level, he plays for Brazilian club Sada Cruzeiro.[1][2]

Early life[]

Lopez Castro was born in Cienfuegos Province, Cuba, as the youngest of 3 children of Elcida Juana Castro and Miguel Angel Lopez Martinez. His interest in volleyball began at the age of seven, when he saw footage of former Cuban star Joel Despaigne and his jumping ability.

By the age of 18, he was selected among other young players to the national volleyball centre "Escuela National de Voleibol" in Havana, as one of the top promises in the country.
