Na początku Bóg stworzył niebo i ziemię. Ziemia zaś była bezładem i pustkowiem: ciemność była nad powierzchnią bezmiaru wód, a Duch Boży unosił się nad wodami. Wtedy Bóg rzekł: «Niechaj się stanie światłość!» I stała się światłość.
Tak bowiem Bóg umiłował świat, że Syna swego Jednorodzonego dał, aby każdy, kto w Niego wierzy, nie zginął, ale miał życie wieczne.

The Millennium Bible (Polish: Biblia Tysiąclecia; full title: Pismo Święte: Starego i Nowego Testamentu, Biblia Tysiąclecia, transl.: Holy Scripture: Old and New Testament, Bible of the Millenium) is the main Polish Bible translation used in the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland. Its first edition was published in 1965 for the 1000-year anniversary of the baptism of Poland in 966. It was the first Catholic translation of the whole Bible since the Jakub Wujek Bible (1599), and the first that was made from the original languages.

Subsequent editions came out in 1971, 1980, 1983 and 2000. The text of fifth edition served as a basis for the Polish Jerusalem Bible (2006).

Brackets[]

The Millenium Bible uses brackets to distinguish words added by a translator. For example Genesis 2,1 is rendered as:

"In this way have been finished heaven and earth and all its host [of creatures]."[1]

This seems to be quite of novelty to someone, who knows only English translations.

However sometimes important words are added without brackets,e.g. Genesis 3,24 is rendered as:

"and having banished the human, God has set in front of the garden of Eden cherubim and shining blade of sword, to guard the way to the tree of life."

After comparison with the quite similar New Jerusalem Bible:

"He banished the man, and in front of the garden of Eden he posted the great winged creatures and the fiery flashing sword, to guard the way to the tree of life."

Compared also with the quite similar Warsaw Bible, you can see that in the Millenium Bible the word "God" has been added without braces.[2]
