Mirza Adigozal bey family Mausoleums (Azerbaijani: Mirzə Adıgözəl bəy ailəsinin türbələri) are historical and architectural monuments located in Rahimli village of Goranboy District, Azerbaijan.

History[]

A total of six mausoleums have reached our time in the Rahimli village cemetery. Four large mausoleums were built of baked bricks and two small mausoleums were made of river stone. On the facade of the tombs, from the inscriptions on gypsum board mounted on the western wall, it is known that in one of them the Azerbaijani historian Mirza Adigozal bey was buried, and in the others his family members were buried. The date of the Mirza adigozal bey's death is indicated on the tomb as 1847/1848, and the name of the calligrapher who wrote the inscription is written as Mirza Mehdi Ganjavi.[1]

Architecture[]

The mausoleums, built of square baked bricks, were built in the same line, at a distance of about 10 meters from each other. The two mausoleums in the middle of them are better studied from a scientific point of view. Mirza Adigozal Bey Mausoleum has a square shape with an almost correct shape on the outside and a cross with shallow arms on the inside. This form of the internal volume of the mausoleum is based on one of the most common early forms of domed mausoleums.[2]

The internal dimensions of the mausoleum are 5.8x5.8 meters, and the thickness of the facade walls is 82 cm. There is a spherical dome on the cornice, which is slightly beyond the main volume of the mausoleum, which has the shape of a regular rectangular prism from the outside. The dome is built of square bricks measuring 20x21x4 cm. Although the main entrance to the mausoleum is on the south side, there are small doorways on the west, east and north sides.

The second mausoleum, located near the Mirza Adigozal Bey Mausoleum, has a square shape with corners cut from the outside. The thin walls of the mausoleum were settled in the form of shallow niches. The niches are completed in an arrow-shape. The surface of the niches is made of brick with a pine weave.

The form of the internal volume of the second mausoleum corresponds to the architecture of Mirza Adigozal bey Mausoleum. The sails forming the transition from the square mausoleum to the dome are decorated with floral patterns. The ornaments were created by drawing contours on wet plaster and then painted.[3]
