Mithai (transl. Sweet) is a 2021 Indian Bengali Romantic Comedy Drama television series that premiered on 4 January 2021 on Zee Bangla. The show is also available on the digital platform ZEE5 before its telecast. The show is produced by Zee Bangla.[1] It stars Soumitrisha Kundu as Mithai Modak and Adrit Roy as Siddhartha Modak.[2][3]

Synopsis[]

Mithai is a cheerful saleslady who sells sweets. She travels to Modak family to sell sweets and over time, makes bond with them like a family member. Later Mithai runs away from her wedding to a unworthy lad and hence Dadu decides to get Mithai married to Siddhartha who refuses to marry Mithai because he doesn't believe in marriage as his parents had an unhappy marriage which he saw in his childhood. Then Dadu decides to get Mithai married to Som who backs out on the wedding day. So Sid has to marry Mithai to save Dadu's honour, but Mithai's marital life is disturbed by Sid's indifference and Torsha's interference. The story also shows a lot of characters present in Monohora with their personal love life. Including Ratul(son-in-law,Sreetoma's husband, Rajib's younger brother, Dhara's elder brother); Rajib(son-in-law, Nanda's husband and Ratul and Dhara's elder brother); Sreetama (Siddhartha's younger sister, accidental wife of Ratul) Sreenipa(would be daughter-in-law of Mitra family but gets failed to show up on wedding day; thus Sreetama took the responsibility to save the honour of Modak family); Rudra(close friend of Siddhartha and love interest of his friend's sister Neepa); Sreenanda (Siddhartha's elder cousin sister, Rajib's wife); Sandip (Nipa's elder brother, Siddhartha's younger cousin brother), Dhara (sister of Rajib and Ratul, Neepa feels jealous of her as she and Rudro are very close friends). Sid accepts Mithai as his wife and to take revenge from Mithai Torsha marries Som(Siddharth's elder adoptive brother) and enters Modak house.

The Times of India quoted the series that "Mithai will tell you a sweet love story".[4]

Viewership[]

Mithai became the most watched television series in Bengal. Beginning with an average viewership, after few weeks, the series soon became the top rated Bengali television program garnering a record viewership, maintaining the first position consistently in the BARC's weekly viewership charts.[5][6][7] As on week 4 of 2022, Mithai has been holding the top position on West Bengal Television TRP charts since last 43 weeks starting week 13 of 2021.[8]

Special episodes[]

  • Mithai's special episode "Mithai Boisakhi Halkhata" aired on 15 April 2021 marking the 100th episode. This special episode successfully received 5.94 million impressions and occupied the first position of the TRP rating in Week 15 of 2021.[24]
