Mohammed Abdullah Alhabshee (born 1954)[1] is the current First Gentleman of Singapore and a retired businessman. He is the spouse of Halimah Yacob, who is the 8th President of Singapore.[2]
Background[]
Mohammed is a Malay of Arab descent.[3]
Mohammed graduated from the National University of Singapore, majoring in physics. It is also where he would first met Halimah Yacob.[2][4]
He married Halimah Yacob in 1980, two years after meeting her at the National University of Singapore.[4] They both own a HDB duplex flat in Yishun, consisting of one 5-room flat and one 4-room flat joined together by demolishing the median wall.[5] They have five children together.
He is currently a retired businessman.[6]
After Halimah won an uncontested election, and was sworn in on 14 September 2017, Mohammed became Singapore's inaugural First Gentleman.[7][8] During Halimah's term as president, they were still living in their HDB duplex flat at Yishun. Halimah previously stated that she would not be moving out of her flat during her term in office.[9] On 2 October 2017, however, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that they would be moving out of the public housing apartment, due to security threats identified by security agencies from being the head of state.[10][11]
