The Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance, State Auditor is a statewide elected position in the U.S. state of Montana. The officeholder is elected once every four years, concurrent with the state's gubernatorial election and the U.S. presidential election. The incumbent Montana State Auditor is Troy Downing, who was first elected in November 2020 and took office in January 2021.[1]

Duties and responsibilities[]

Due to the Auditor being a constitutional office, the Auditor works out of the state's capital city of Helena. The Chamber of Commerce of Montana monitors the work that the Auditor does.[2][3]

The Auditor of the state of Montana's job is similar to that of many other states. Through the Auditor, residents can renew insurance, apply for business-operating licenses, and other work that requires licensing through the state government. The auditor is an executive officer, being part of the cabinet of the Governor, and manages tax revenue.[4][5]
