msmtp is an SMTP client.[6][7] It is free software, published under the GPLv3.[8] msmtp is distributed by major Linux distributions[9] and by FreeBSD.[6] It can also be found bundled in Android applications.[10]

msmtp is able to utilise email account passwords stored in Keychain on OS X,[7] or in GNOME Keyring on computers using the GNOME desktop.[11]

msmtp can be used in conjunction with OfflineIMAP.[12] This allows the user to read email and draft replies offline,[12] and to use msmtp to send the replies when back online.[13]
