MUBI (/ˈmbi/; formerly The Auteurs) is a global curated film streaming platform, production company and film distributor. MUBI produces[1] and theatrically distributes films by emerging and established filmmakers, which are exclusively available on its platform. Additionally, it publishes Notebook, a film criticism and news publication, and provides weekly cinema tickets to selected new release films through MUBI GO.

MUBI's streaming platform is available in over 190 countries on the web, Android TV, Chromecast, Roku devices, PlayStation,[2] Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV,[3] LG and Samsung Smart TVs,[4] as well as on mobile devices including iPhone, iPad[5] and Android.[6]

History[]

The Auteurs was founded in 2007 by Efe Çakarel, who began work on the business model for MUBI after being unable to watch In the Mood for Love online while in a café in Tokyo.[7] In 2010, the company adopted the new name MUBI.[8]

MUBI is a curated streaming service, which offers an ever-changing collection of hand-picked films, introducing one new film each day.

MUBI is also a distributor[9] and producer.[10] Co-productions include One Fine Morning (Mia Hansen-Løve), Port Authority[11] (Danielle Lessovitz), Amor[12] (Ekwa Msangi), Our Men (Rachel Lang), and a true crime documentary from David Farrier. MUBI is also an executive producer on Maniac Cop[13] (Nicolas Winding Refn).

MUBI Podcasts[]

In 2021, MUBI launched two original podcasts. An English language podcast called MUBI Podcast[14] produced with Rico Gagliano, and a Spanish language podcast titled MUBI Podcast: Encuentros,[15] produced in collaboration with La Corriente del Golfo, the production house founded by Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna.
