Muhammad Hayat Khan was an Azad Kashmiri politician who served as the 14th President of Azad Kashmir from October 30, 1978 to February 1, 1983. He is widely regarded as the most impactful president the region has ever had. [1]

He was born on December 20, 1938 in the house of Sardar Sher Ali Khan in Chhota gala a village near Rawalakot, Azad Kashmir. He got his education from government high school Rawalakot. He got commission in army on 15 nov 1958. He had shown his excellent skills in war of 65. And 71. On many battlefield. Due to his excellent performance he was awarded with Sitare Imtiaz military and Sitare Bisalat.

In 1977 with the advise of all political parties the Legislative Assembly of AJK and AJK Council had been dissolved, still His highness sardar Ibrahim was president of AJK Latter he was forcefully removed . sardar sab file a petition in supreme court he was not succeeded and Major General Habib ur Rahamn was appointed as president of AJK.

He resigned due to his illness. On 5th nov 1977 Marsha law was announced in Pakistan He was appointed as Caretaker of AJK on 1st nov 1977. Latter he was appointed as president due to resignation of former president.

He had excellent skill of administration. Beside that he had no prior experience of politics he proved as a good administrator. In his reign there were no political restrictions like as in Pakistan .

He had not faced any political problem which were proof of his excellent skills and abilities.

His reign was an area of prosperity, development and construction for AJK. He had no political aim, his only aim was development. He wanted to make AJK a welfare state . He is the only Ruler of AJK who got full support from Pakistan. In his reign he had done many marvelous work which were not performed by 31 year prior government and nearly 32 year government. He had blown life in every department of AJK.

He had done many marvelous work,some of them are listed below.

Inauguration of AJK first University,

with four campous in Muzzafarabad, Rawalakot,kotli,Mirpur.

His vision was that in future these all would become full Universities.Once a question was asked name a University which is spread on whole state.

Construction of Goe Nala road which reduce time of journey from 7 to 3 hour.

‘Dastan-e-Hayat’, autobiography of former president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Major General (r) Mohammad Hayat Khan was launched in Rawalpindi, Pakistan

AJK's former president general (r) Sardar Muhammad Anwar Khan, former prime minister Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob and many other leaders were present on the occasion. While addressing the gathering Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob said that Major General (r) Mohammad Hayat Khan is his ideal and he has learnt how to serve the people from him.

He said that General Hayat has contributed a lot for the development of AJK and this is one of the main reasons that everyone knows him and give him respect. “General Hayat is a fortunate and hardworking person and we can lean from his experience,” he said and added that the autobiography of General Hayat is a gift for our new generation.

Sardar Muhammad Anwar Khan in his address congratulated the General Hayat for his effort and said that this autobiography would be the best source for our new generation to

know about the politics, economic and other issues of AJK.

He said that General Hayat has spent his life to improve the living standard of the people of AJK. He constructed many roads and completed many projects during his tenure. “By writing this autobiography General Hayat has given a direction to new generation that how can they play their role in the development of their country,” he said.

Later General (r) Hayat Khan thanked all the guests for their participation and said, “I am feeling very lucky that my people still love me. I have written all the experiences of my life in this book. Our new generation can learn many things from this book.”
