Néziha Zarrouk

Néziha Zarrouk  (born 12 December 1946) is a Tunisian academic, politician and diplomat who  was Minister of Women and Family Affairs and Tunisian ambassador to Lebanon. She joined Rassemblement Constitutionnel Démocratique (RCD) which was the ruling party in Tunisia in 1987. She defected to Afek Tounes  party on 29 October 2019.[1]

Career[]

Zarrouk was born in Jemmal. She taught Arabic language and literature  in secondary schools in Tunis before joining active politics following a call for her to join the ruling  Rassemblement Constitutionnel Démocratique (RDC) party by President Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali on 7 November 1987.  She rose through RDC executive ranks to sit on the political bureau of RDC serving as deputy general secretary of the party becoming the first woman to attain this position. In 2005, she was appointed as second vice-president of the Chamber of Councilors by the President.[2][3][4] She was Minister of Women and Family Affairs from March 1995 to October 2001 before being shuffled to the Ministry of Vocational Training and Employment serving from October 2001 to September 2002. She is the first woman to hold this latter position. From 2003 to 2005, she was  Tunisian Ambassador to Lebanon.
