Nadia Naked is the debut album by South African rapper Nadia Nakai. The album was released on June 2, 2019, by Family Tree Records. It features guest appearances by Cassper Nyovest, Khuli Chana, Kwesta, Lady Zamar, Tshego and Stefflon Don.

Background[]

In 2016, Nakai released her first EP, titled Bragga, and signed a new record deal with Family Tree Records.[1] Three years later, she explained that she wanted to create a personal album rather than repeating her earlier party songs.[2]

Music and lyrics[]

"Imma Boss" is a uptempo-club ready song which incorporates bounce genre on it. Lyrically, the song shows Nakai clapping back at her haters in which she displays her position in the game.

"Kreatures" serves as one of the most emotional song from the album. The strictly Hip hop-built song features fellow artists Kwesta and Sio. Lyrically, Nakai and Kwesta both flex with their achievements on the their verses meanwhile Sio gives out her R&B-influenced chorus on the song which focus on love commitment theme.

"More Drugs" is a mid-tempo R&B-influenced song. It speaks about a lover that keeps on breaking Nakai's heart in which he compels her to take more drugs.

"Yaas Bitch" is a strictly hip hop song which focus on female empowerment theme. In the lyrics, Nakai inspires women to claim what they deserve from men.

Artwork and title[]

The artwork used for the album was shot by Jiten Ramlal and designed by Jabu Nkosi.[3] The album cover features Nakai nude. On May 3, 2019, Nakai revealed the title and the release date of the album on Twitter.[4] Nakai has said that the title combines her name and the idea that her performances are so emotionally revealing that she seems "naked".[5]

Critical reception[]

Michael Highly of Dope Off The Press observed that Nakai "feels seasoned and much more confident throughout the album".[1]
