Nathaniel Trives is an American politician who served as the first African-American mayor of Santa Monica, California.[2] Trives is a former Santa Monica police officer who served on the Santa Monica City Council from 1971 to 1979. He served as mayor of the prominent beachfront community from 1975-77.[3]

Trives received his B.S. in criminal justice from Cal State Los Angeles and Master of Public Administration from UCLA. He is an alumnus of Santa Monica College.
